[Louisiana Senator] Landrieu defends [state] Medicaid funds [i.e., "the Louisiana Purchase"]

Democratic U.S. Sen. Mary Landrieu took to the Senate floor Thursday delivering a blistering defense of her securing $300 million for Louisiana Medicaid in the health care bill and criticized Gov. Bobby Jindal for not supporting her in the move.

Before taking a shot at Jindal, Landrieu noted that the governor made one statement defending her to CNN.

"It takes more than intelligence to be a public official, it takes more than a fancy resume, it takes guts," Landrieu said. "Some people have more of those than others."

Landrieu said she felt it necessary to speak out on the matter to "clear the air." Landrieu has been roundly criticized, particularly by conservative media, for securing the money before she voted for the health care plan she initially opposed.

Landrieu said her vote was not tied to the money but other issues such as her opposition to a government-run health care plan that was eventually removed.

Landrieu challenged her Senate colleagues to come to the floor to debate her on the matter.

Let's get this over today," Landrieu said. "If they don't come, I wish they would keep their mouths shut about something they know nothing about."

Too little, too late, Senator. You and fellow Senator Ben “Cornhusker Kickback” Nelson need to go.

We know it wasn't tied to her constituent's feedback either. They're still dialing.

Why debate something her opponents know is true?

I mean this is like me trying to debate John Edwards that he is not a wife beating, adulterous, paternity denying lout who left his cancer stricken wife’s side to sleep with a mistress.

I have nothing to gain by such a debate. He however, looks like a jackass bringing up his own folly for further public examination.

Oh how it’s funny to watch these clowns twist in the wind.

Let's assume for the sake of argument that I'm not Bobby Jindal.

Is it OK to criticize your vote now?

“Let’s get this over today,” Landrieu said. “If they don’t come, I wish they would keep their mouths shut about something they know nothing about.”

It sounds like she’s admitting that when Harry met Mary they did a secret deal that the Republicans knew nothing about.

It also sounds like “let’s just leave this little matter behind us, shall we?”

Does anyone know if she still gets the $300 million now that the health care bill is stalled?

Just thinking here how another Senator's staff could make arrangements for the debate with Moon Landrieu's corrupt daughter's office ~ after all, her phones don't work!

That's 'cause they ring busy all the time and you can only call OUT.

I suppose that, if the $300 million in question were written into the bill and the bill dies, Landrieu doesn’t get a dime.

Landrieu challenged her Senate colleagues to come to the floor to debate her on the matter

Landrieu is ultimately accountable to the voters in Louisiana and not to 49 individuals in the Capitol, so she is choosing the wrong forum for debate.

Ever heard of town halls, Mary?
