Scott Brown's Remarks Following His Swearing-In (Conservatism Alert)
National Review ^ | 2/04/2010 | Scott Brown

Posted on 02/04/2010 2:54:30 PM PST by goldstategop

t's a great honor to stand before you as the new United States Senator from Massachusetts.

I want to express my gratitude and appreciation to many people, starting with my wife Gail, to Vice President Biden, to Senators Kerry and Kirk, to Leader McConnell, and to so many other people who have been generous with their time and their advice.

I especially want to thank the people of Massachusetts who sent me here. I can't promise I'll be right in every vote I make. I'm sure I'll make mistakes from time to time. But I will try to give them my level best every day.

My daughters Ayla and Arianna could not be here, but I felt their presence. The bibles I used for today's swearing-in belong to my daughters, and I stacked them one on top of the other and took my oath on them. So they were both with me in spirit.

People have asked me why I wanted to get sworn-in so quickly after the results had been certified. It's because I want to get to work.

There are a lot of votes pending that I would like to participate in.

Even more importantly, these are urgent times for our nation. The President this week submitted a $3.8 trillion budget. We'll have to borrow 40% of that amount because we don't have the money to pay for all that spending. I'm concerned we're living beyond our means. Also this week, the CIA director said there will be another al-Qaeda attack in the US in the next 3 to 6 months. This is frightening news, and we owe the people of America everything we can do to deter and prevent future attacks on our nation.

So I'm glad to be fully able to participate in the affairs our nation at this critical time.

I also want to extend my appreciation to all of you in the press. I see many familiar faces here and I want you to know how much I respect the work you do, and the patience and many kindnesses you have shown my family.

With that, I'll take a few questions.

I hope he can stop what Obama is doing to America's future.

This is the way obamanites talked about him during his campaign; substitute "bush" for "obama."

You'll be just as disappointed.

It sure is reassuring to have you here to keep us ignorant slobs in line.

I guess this is your best effort at a refutation?

Well compared to what we had yesterday, I would say conservatives have their work cut out for them.

I’m prepared to wait and see how he votes before I start knocking him. If he helps block some of Obama’s lousy nominations, that’ll be a good start.

Not much of an answer.

Nope, you're right. 'Cause it's the liberals that whine if they aren't spoonfed, not the conservatives.

Thanks for chiming in.

I suspect he is what I think of as a ‘Abused Wife Republican’. The Democrats and other leftist and hacks, like drunk husbands make a royal mess, expand the size and reach of government, and ‘Abused Wife Republicans’ comes in and tidy the joint up, but, basically leave most of all the metastasizing growth intact, and call it a great victory.

He’s from Massachusetts! Don’t expect a Reagan but hope for something better than a Kennedy.

He supported universal health care for Massachusetts, not for the country. At least going state by state one can see what works and what not. The experience in Massachusetts shows that it raises rather than lowers costs.

Message for Brown:

Don't F this up. I mean it. Really.

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

This man is the catalyst for univeral healthcare nationwide, simply because everyone thinks he's "not for obamacare." He is THE Trojan Horse of compromise. Thank you all for falling for it.

If things work out like they should, and dumbass republicans refuse to elect moderates and rinos next election, then Brown will just take a back seat and either follow conservatives or sit in the shadows!

Brown probably is a rino, and somebody has to put their foot down and say NO MORE!

As a general rule, it’s the liberals who make claims they can’t support.

You know, if he is “pro-choice” he could use the states’ rights rationale to vote to override Roe v. Wade/against the birth on partial abortion bad. The irony of Roe. V. Wade is that the pro-aborts were winning, state by state, back in 1973. If they had been patient, all but a handful of states would have legalized abortions by 1980 or 1990. Overturning it would send the matter back to the states with much the same result.

“What gain is this?”

The gain is the fillibuster proof majority is gone. The gain is that it was probably the death-knell for 0bamacare. Every new GOP seat in the Senate is one step closer to the majority. If McConnell is the majority leader, 0bamacare, cap and tax, card-check, probably never even make it to the floor for a vote.
