Hmmm..., it sounds like they've still got the "Pineapple Express" going on down in California. I think Oregon and Washington is supposed to have it this time of year, instead... :-)

New Train of Storms Begins in the West

Storms lining up in the Pacific have again begun to make their way into the West. At times, including the next few days, their rain and mountain snow will stretch from Southern California to Washington and areas well inland.

While the overall strength and frequency of the storms will not be as intense as that of a couple of weeks ago, there will be enough rain, enough of the time, to raise problems with flash flooding and mudslides, as well as roadway and flight delays.

The wind was blowing real good this morning when the 5.9 quake hit but the rain missed Humboldt Bay again so you can have it all. Radar shows it is raining east of us from the Ore border to about Willows and just west of I-5...

How did you know we'd get that?

Big area of yellow on the map at #15 southwest of Barstow...will get a report from my daughter later.

She is coming down mid morning with two HS girls who are going to Knotts Berry Farm....think there might be some boys they know showing up there too.

They aren’t worried about any rain...according to my daughter ,...LOL!

OC Register:

Storm drops 2” of rain overnight, more coming

February 6th, 2010, 5:39 am · 23 Comments · posted by Gary Robbins, science writer-editor

At dawn, NOAA infrared radar showed one storm moving out of Orange County and another moving in.

Updated 7:45 a.m. Saturday

Orange County continues to be lashed with rain and strong winds this morning after a west Pacific storm unexpectedly gained power overnight. Parts of the county have received 2” of rain since 9 p.m. Friday, creating mudslide and debris flow dangers in the eastern foothills and canyons. (Irvine is getting slammed hard at this moment, readers say.) Dohenydaze, a regular reader of this site, says, “Pouring again in Capo Beach. Rain coming down the fireplace wall.”

At 7:45 a.m., CHP said there were 25 traffic accidents and hazards on county freeways. (Traffic). The storm was expected to drop only 0.75” to 1” on most areas, and die out by late Friday evening.

The heavy rain has closed southbound Pacific Coast Highway in Huntington Beach, between Warner and Golden West. Street flooding is occurring throughout the county. A flash flood watch is in effect until 4 a.m. Sunday.

Winds continue to be gusty, hitting 30 mph at the Huntington Pier and 25 mph at the Discovery Science Center in Santa Ana.

A large mudslide has been reported in La Canada, not far from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

2nd Car Found In Ravine Near Sheen's Mercedes

**************************EXCERPT***************************

Feb 5, 2010 3:17 pm US/Pacific

STUDIO CITY, Calif. (AP) ―

Los Angeles police say another car has been found over the side of a road where Charlie Sheen's Mercedes was earlier pulled from a steep ravine.

Sheen reported that his Mercedes-Benz sedan was stolen from his gated community at around 4 a.m. in Sherman Oaks. At around the same time, it was found upside down hundreds of feet down a ravine off Mulholland Drive near his home. Nobody was in the car.

Police spokesman Richard French says a photographer who was in the area reported a Bentley in the ravine shortly after 1:30 p.m.

California storm brings mudslides, flooding

********************************EXCERPT******************************************

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Authorities say approximately six foothill homes in wildfire burn areas northeast of Los Angeles are under mandatory evacuation orders after a pounding winter storm triggered mudslides and caused widespread flooding.

County sheriff’s deputies are walking door to door Saturday to tell residents in the La Canada Flintridge area to get out after a debris flow up to 4 feet high damaged an unknown number of homes.

Residents have been rescued from houses and vehicles stuck in the mud. No injuries are reported.

Was out and about listening to 1070 am...quite a number of homes in La Cananda damged severly...mud flows moved cars and the big cement barriers like toys as they described it.

Another rain this afternoon and then a new storm arrives Tuesday and Wednesday....

I heard some one on the radio report say that the soil is now in such a condition that anything over 1/4 inch per hour would trigger bad stuff...

I don't think it is suppose to be stronger than this one,...but even slightly weaker might still cause damage ...
