They are condescending because they are insecure about themselves.

“Why are liberals so condescending?”

As in a previous comment “To the headline” I respond that everything that is a Liberal is the opposite.

As “intellectuals” they are NOT.

As “progressives” they are NOT.

As “tolerant” they are NOT, and the list goes on.

Arrogant because they ARE ignorant, NOT progressive, and NOT tolerant, and NOT a lot more, therefore condescension is their facade, their cover for their gross inadequacies.

That is my opinion in 80 words or less.

This sentence reminds of the NPR voice. That condescending, whiny, distinctive, and pretentious speaking accent absolutely grates on my nerves.

Me too.

I thought about it for awhile once and I realized, that, at least among the male voices, they all sound gay.

It is an effective technique to insult the conservative enemy and keep their own people in line.

George Lakoff, a linguist at the University of California at Berkeley and a consultant to Democratic candidates, says flatly that liberals, unlike conservatives, "still believe in Enlightenment reason," while Drew Westen, an Emory University psychologist and Democratic consultant, argues that the GOP has done a better job of mastering the emotional side of campaigns because Democrats, alas, are just too intellectual. "They like to read and think," Westen wrote. "They thrive on policy debates, arguments, statistics, and getting the facts right."

That is some high-quality fertilizer right there. Along with condescension, liberals appaently are masters of projection as well.

Yes, the degree of snottiness of NYrs is...well, the joke’s on them.

Manhattanites refer to people living in the outer boroughs as “the bridge and tunnel crowd”.

Clearly, one is either part of “The In Crowd” or you are an outsider, deserving of their sneering, intolerant, condescending contempt.

Because they think they are better because they are kinder...in their minds.

It’s really such a base satisfaction and with God now way down the priority list this the new soul.

Feeling one is nice or altruistic.

It fuels everything except that which requires true responsibility.

Liberals apparently don’t know anything at all.
But they don’t know it with complete confidence.

I love that explanation!!!

I am a former NY'er and would add that the same condescension NY'ers feel is present in all cities.

I live in the country now and when my brother and family arrive from Atlanta, I witness the same attitude.

I think it is the intensity of the rat race that causes that kind of thinking. I also think the insularity of city living (hanging around only with folks like you...from work or the subdivision/neighborhood) that encourages that kind of closed mindedness.

Then-Vermont Gov. Howard Dean, later chairman of the Democratic National Committee, echoed that theme in his 2004 presidential run, when he said Republicans had succeeded in getting Southern whites to focus on "guns, God and gays" instead of economic redistribution. [Emphasis Mine.

And there you go. Second Amendment, First Amendment and some kind of "civil" rights, instead of COMMUNISIM.

And the problem is ? ? ? LIBERALS not living up to their own moral code.

Saul's Rule 4. "Make the enemy live up to its own book of rules.”

Given that Statists seemingly have no moral code, this would appear to be a good tactic for them. But in reality, they do have ‘rules’ – rules they want everyone else to live by, but not themselves – Statist’s are nothing if not hypocrites.

Therefore, we Conservatives should insist that the Statists ‘lead by example’ – live by their own set of stupid rules and admonitions.

Because it’s an act. They pretend to be all-knowing, “tolerant,” non-racist, “caring”

But the reality is they are just the opposite and being “liberal” is a defense mechanism to cover up who they really are.

Most of the "condescending" and "arrogant" people I have met in my 64 years have been those who really harbor deep-seated inferiorities. The aloofness and arrogance is their mechanism for hiding those things.

People who have been fed a steady diet of "it's someone else's fault" all their lives, live with anger and a big chip on their shoulders for their perceived "enemies".

It is also present in those who were overly priviledged - or "spoiled", for lack of a better word. These folks are so used to being lavished with attention and someone giving their all to prevent an accidental loss of self-esteem in the little darlings, that they grow up and expect everyone else to coddle them like mommy and daddy did. They're some of the worst.

A lot of the elites are just "wannabes" who don't "wannabe" bad enough to work for it; they depend on the government and others to pave their way through life, pass them when they fail, and sooth them when they're sad...again, immature children.

When governments started the meddling with the disciplining of children, and made single parenting 'profitable' and easy, there are many who took/take the easy road...so I give you, the democrat party.

I have often wondered if they have an NPR speaking school? How else could anyone learn to speak like that?

When your entire ideology is based on the premise that the vast majority of people are incapable of taking care of themselves or of even thinking for themselves, but need the government to do that for them, it just follows that you will not treat those people as equals, especially when you identify yourself with those you have made their caretakers.
