Now when there is a service project planned, a Hornaday Conservations work project, or and Eagle project planned we extend an invitation to the local Girl Scout Troop. Then send the Girl Scout Troop a report of what girls assisted on what and how many hours so that they can get get credit in the Girl Scout program. Teaching the boys to be ‘Gentlemen.’

No, you're right that it isn't Rockwell...can't recall the guy's name, but there's an artist the BSA has brought in specifically to continue the Rockwellesque tradition of scout paintings. He's doing a great job.

This isn't one of his, but I like it a lot..."Timing is Everything" by Dru Blair...note the cub scouts at the lower left:

Do we ever need that! As some who are older seem to have forgotten.

Oh, forgot to mention...met a gent today at the servicewho was one of the chartering scouts when the troop was founded in 1942. Turns out he stayed for 50 years and retired as scoutmaster in 1992!

Joseph Csatari, Norman Rockwell’s Scouting successor, is also an American realist artist and illustrator. Like Rockwell, Csatari illustrated for the Saturday Evening Post, Brown & Bigelow Boy Scout calendars, and Boys’ Life magazine covers. His involvement with the Boy Scouts of America has been one of length and dedication.

Csatari was born in 1929 in New Jersey. As a child, he copied the Saturday Evening Post covers of his idol Norman Rockwell. He went on to study art at the Academy of Arts in Newark, New Jersey, and the Pratt Institute in Brooklyn.

In 1953, Csatari worked for the Boy Scouts as the art director in the Supply Division department. He chose this position in hopes of one day getting to meet Rockwell.

I recently visited the gallery and photographed them all
Seeing the actual paintings was very moving

We’re actually celebrating Scout Sunday next Sunday. We’re cooking up a pancake breakfast after the service for the parish.
