Sounds reminiscent of the Hydrogen cracker that blew up at the Exxon refinery outside Linden NJ circa 1970...that one was hurd 40 miles away.

Keeping in mind that casualties are not fatalities.

That said, prayers for all.

Kleen Energy is a combined cycle turbine with low-sulfur oil as backup. Dang, I thinjk we should be using our natural gas for industry (chemical feedstock), not power, but this isn’t what I want as a lesson. :-(

According to their web site they are the fossil-fueled electric generating plant in the state. The plant uses natural gas oil and ultra low-sulfur distillate fuel.

What’s the distance there?

If that's from New Haven (I think it is) then it's about 25 miles.

http://www.newstimes.com/news/article/Power-plant-explodes-many-injured-355283.php

At least two are dead and several have life-threatening injuries, we are told. There are mass casualties, as many as 75 people injured. There were about 100 people inside the plant today where they were supposed to be testing some upgrades made recently to the facility. About 30 ambulances have responded to the scene, as well as the two Lifestar helicopters. A witness said the explosion caused a "massive ball of fire 40 to 50 feet into the air." Homeland security has also been called to the scene.

IIANM, both gas and oil were to be fed to the plant by pipeline.
