May he rest in peace.

He served our nation as a United States Marine. What we may think of him as a politician is really irrelevant at this point. Let's keep the comments civil. No point in giving fodder to the left wing blogs.

So, how does his seat get filled? Does someone get appointed until November? If so, who does the appointing?

Article 1 Section 2

When vacancies happen in the Representation from any State, the Executive Authority thereof shall issue Writs of Election to fill such Vacancies.

The governor could schedule the election for November or any time before. Considering that the State has little money to spare he could just leave the seat vacant until the November Election.

However I do believe there would have to be two separate spots on the ballot one for the vacant seat and one fore the new congress.

So it would be conceivable that you could have two different winners.
