ROMULUS, Mich. – A portion of a terminal at Detroit Metropolitan Airport was evacuated Monday after a man walked through a passenger screening checkpoint and refused to obey security officers, officials said.

The passenger failed to stop about 7:45 a.m. at the McNamara Terminal, the Transportation Security Administration said. The man was arrested by airport police and was being questioned, airport spokesman Mike Conway said.

"The Transportation Security Administration asked him to stop and he didn't comply," Conway said.

TSA workers activated an alarm and called police. Security doors were lowered at the portion of the terminal between the security checkpoint and terminal concourse, and people in that area were evacuated, Conway said.

DETROIT, Feb. 8 (UPI) — Part of a Detroit airport terminal was shut down Monday after an Arabic man ignored instructions from security guards, police said....
The man allegedly refused to stop for questions during a security screening process, airport spokesman Michael Conway said.

Security guards at first thought the man didn’t understand English and therefore didn’t understand their questions, but when he was taken into custody, he began to speak in English, Conway said. http://www.jihadwatch.org/2010/02/dry-run-at-detroit-airport-arabic-man-ignores-instructions-from-security-guards-part-of-airport-shut.html http://www.upi.com/Top_News/US/2010/02/08/Security-scare-closes-airport-concourse/UPI-91431265652941/

I'll wager my paycheck President 0bama has a press conference to announce "this is NOT human-caused disaster-related activity" within moments. He will naturally do this without any supporting evidence.
That nitwit is always very eager to show support to Muzzies who are probing our ongoing security methods at an increasing rate.

One idiot pulling a stunt like this is all it takes to shut down an airport for several hours. He’ll probably get a lot of prison time but it’s cases like this that tempt me to call for the return of the pillory.

Muslims or at any rate Arabs routinely ignore instructions from flight attendants, etc. I was on a flight a couple of days ago where the attendant told one Arabic man that he could not change his seat to sit next to another in a particular location, but she offered them two seats together in another part of the plane. The Arabic man refused, and as soon as the flight attendant went up the aisle, he moved into the seat next to his friend (which was the seat the flight attendant told him he could not take). She was obviously intimidated, because she glanced at him but said nothing when she saw it.

Then they both simply ignored instructions to turn off their electronic devices (phones) when landing, and one was even texting. Again, the flight attendant noticed this, but she clearly didn’t want to delay the landing by taking them on.

I don’t know if they were up to something, possibly seeing how much they can get away with, or if that was just routine arrogant, rude Arab behavior.

yah... and that really needs a re-think. If there's a security breach it just doesn't make any sense to evacuate the whole place. If anything... you don't want anyone to *leave*. But rushing everyone outside does two very bad things: a.) It gives a bad guy a chance to escape in the crowd, and b.) It creates a perfect (and predictable) target for a car bomb(s) along the concourse with perhaps thousands of people in a dense crowd waiting to go back in.

Way beyond Frenchman rude.

One of them had a little smirk, as if daring the flight attendant to try to do something about it. I think she should have made him move, but on the other hand, we probably would have had to turn back if he had refused and the schedule was already out of whack because of the snowstorm. Something of which he was perfectly aware, I’m sure.

God IS looking for spiritual fruits. Hope your flight goes well. We are scheduled to fly 3,000 miles across America from the east to the west in a few weeks. Have already paid for the tickets. If I think the process will be insecure (based on acts like the one in this thread in Detroit, or like the one experienced on the plane in the earlier post on this thread, one of two things will happen: we’ll drive; or I’ll be the one quietly, yet significantly and with force aforethought, commandering the cellphones from the two miscreants and encouraging them to simply behave as civilized people (and to obey the flight attendant). Flying has become a pain in the posterior to we who are generally law abiding citizens. It’s time to take our country back. Count me in.

“Man arrested after Detroit airport security breach”

SNIPPET: “In a criminal complaint filed with U.S. District Court in Detroit, FBI agent Michael Thomas said the man, identified as Kaylan L. Policherla, walked through the checkpoint and a metal detector with his hands in his jacket pockets.

Transportation Security Administration workers activated an alarm, security doors were lowered at the portion of the terminal between the security checkpoint and terminal concourse, and people were evacuated from that area, airport spokesman Mike Conway said.

A TSA screener followed Policherla until airport police arrived and ordered him to stop, Thomas said. An officer discharged a Taser at Policherla but it had no effect, and officers then wrestled him to the floor and handcuffed him, Thomas said.”

SNIPPET: “The complaint said Policherla was born in 1982 and his car, a Volkswagen Passat with Ohio license plates, was illegally parked outside the McNamara Terminal before he entered the building. The vehicle was searched and towed.”

I’m just idly wondering what the latest no-fly list says about overly endowed upper chest Islamic women right now.

TSA must be having some interesting questions about checking “under the hood” to any burka covered women.

I’d say that since they declined seats together in another area of the plane, for some reason, both men wanted to sit in those particular seats. Had I witnessed the attendant’s fear and refusal to address this, I would immediately have made a HUGE stick about it until something was done and I’d have demanded to get off before that flight took off and I would have reported her INaction. But that’s just me. I’m of the opinion that we should be on hightened alert for these things...I’d rather over-react than be dead ;)

I was sitting near them and I watched them, and in fact then the flight attendant came and sat directly behind them, so I suspect that she had conferred with someone, possibly the captain, and been told to keep an eye on them.

They both spoke a fair amount of English, but one of them was probably directly from the ME (he was wearing flip-flops, despite the fact that the weather was cold and wet).

In retrospect, I think it would have been better to have made a fuss, even if it had resulted in a delay. These guys seem to have been nothing but rude and behaving with the usual Muslim contempt for our rules. But certainly, if Muslims see that it is possible to get away with this behavior on that airline (it was operated by some small company as a feeder for a larger line), it will obviously occur to the terrorists among them that this is an easy target.

Dealing with aggressive Muslims walking the very thinnest edge of acceptable behavior is definitely a difficult spot.
If the other passengers and flight attendant don't have your back, a person could be singled-out and face absurd "hate crime" charges for otherwise reasonable actions taken.
Each situation is certainly dynamic and demands split-second decisions on what is correct at the very moment. Unsure of what is the conventional wisdom (e.g. advise flight attendant you'll be confiscating the misused telephones by force?) for in-flight awareness and tactics.
