Agency Will Create National Climate Service to Spur Adaptation [We need a new agency?]
NY Times ^ | 2-9-10

Posted on 02/09/2010 5:44:22 AM PST by SJackson

The Obama administration announced plans yesterday to create a new National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Climate Service.

The proposed entity would provide "user-friendly" information to help governments and businesses adapt to climate change, creating a central federal source of information on everything from projections of sea level rise to maps of the nation's best sites for wind and solar power.

"Even with our best efforts, we know that some degree of climate change is inevitable," said Commerce Secretary Gary Locke, whose department includes NOAA. "American citizens, businesses and governments -- from local to federal -- must be able to rise to the challenges that lie ahead. And that's where NOAA's climate service will prove absolutely invaluable."

Just as NOAA's National Weather Service provides information on short-range environmental conditions, the proposed climate service will provide long-term projections of how climate will change, he added.

And just as a private weather industry -- including companies like the Weather Channel -- has sprung up around the National Weather Service, Locke said he hopes creating the climate service will spur a new private climate information sector.

"If you own a ski resort, you're might be wondering, do you expand or not expand? What's the impact of climate change on weather patterns at a certain elevation where your ski resort is?" he said. "Some people will take this information to the private sector and focus just on ski resorts."

I acknowledge I don't own a ski resort, but if I did and was thinking of expanding, I'd probably be consulting with people in the private sector, probably including evil bankers and global warming heretics. Not the government. To the extent government entered my plans, it would likely be along the lines of do I want to put up with the additional regulatory aggrivation an expansion would cause. But I recognize this comes from the Times.

I thought NASA and the CIA were going to do this? A country just can’t have too many bureaucrats I guess.

Or as Joe the Biden says, it’s a three letter word, J-O-B-S. Who better to make them up than the government.

Never let a serious crisis go to waste...and where there isn't one, manufacture it. That is the progressive motto these days.

I think that prior to any new Federal law, regulation, agency, etc. taking effect nationwide, it should be tried for a year in D.C. When they talk about a virtual fence at the border, the White House should take down it's wrought iron enclosure, and rely on a virtual fence for a year. Before micro-cars and hybrids are foisted on the public at large, all Fed-Gov employees and motor fleets should be required to adopt them on a trial basis for a year, etc.

Become a precinct delegate. Find candidates for congress that will not fund these worthless agencies. Work to have them elected. Hold them to it. Punish them if necessary.

The GOP should call it DOA. We don’t need anymore taxpayer money being thrown at a scam when the debt is soaring.

Honestly -- I feel like these people live in a totally different world than I do -- up is down/down is up, we say it exists so it does, play no attention to the man behind the curtain.

Of course, my attitude may be due to the fact that I just shoveled 20" of "Globull Warming" off my driveway and sidewalks, and I'm waiting for the next round tonight ...

You know, it’s difficult to provide an accurate 10 day weather forecast.

Now try climate forecasting for 10, 20, 50, and 100 years in the future. Good luck!

This is just another re-org which is to make taxpayers think important things are happening. Same people in NOAA and NESDIS doing the same climate stuff but with a different title on the door. Nothing to see here folks. Move along.

Yes, I agree. It does seem as if this agency is planned to have enforcement powers at some point.

No. It is NOT stupidity...it is an outright, abject, blatant, FRAUD. Its all based on LIES; on manufactured, junk science...made up by ‘scientists’ who created an imaginary problem that would enable them to line their pockets; making up data as they go; to perpetuate a political agenda pushed by far left controlled government types who can issue the grants that give the opportunity to “make uo even more stuff.k

They are anything but stupid. Maniacal; conniving’ theiving; co-conspirators would be a more apt description.

The British media (they still have actual journalists across the pond) is all over exposing the lies; fraud; and “made up out of thin—perfect air’ data.’. Be the paper/blog/network have a lib or conservative orientation...they, as the fourth estate, are uncovering the ‘story’ of AGW.

American ‘media?’ Not so much. Though it has been reported how ‘dashing’ our Dear Leader looks with snowflakes on him...

Agree. The private sector will make global decisions based on need and opportunity. Just give NOAA the responsibility of “guessing” long term forecast (5, 10, 25, 50, 100 years out) and wait to see if they are any better than they were at predicting last year’s hurricane season. Just give them a measure of performance like 90% accuracy and see if they can earn their money.

What a joke. If you own a ski resort, you know that Government “climate change” predictions are the last thing you have to worry about when considering expansion.

1st. You consider your market and the future demand.

2nd. You consider the cost and time requirements of the Governmental Labyrinth of approvals needed for expansion. It currently takes YEARS just to get the approval to MOVE a lift on an existing resort.

I can’t imagine EVER consulting some (insert Rahm Emmanuel expletive) Government Climate Panel when making such a decision.

We need one of those progressive libturds global warming ribbons ... it can be to convey I support the Obama lies about man-caused climate change — Yeah I know it’s all a lie, but you don’t have a ribbon, do you. It gives me a superiority feeling and self esteem.

Maybe the AUDI green police will give you a ribbon.

Bet you never saw a US president lie like Obama does.

I think the goal in creating a new agency is to jettison the existing AGW baggage.

The narrative to the great unwashed will be “See, now this is the REAL truth”.

>> Agency Will Create National Climate Service to Spur Adaptation

These people are likely darwinists. Has adaptation ever needed an agency in the past? If adaptation is necessary, it will occur. Necessity, not agency oversight, will be the driving force.

Only a Democrat and his addled supporters would think this is necessary or a good idea.

Hasn’t he already charged other Federal agencies, such as NASA, with monitoring climate change? How much are we going to spend on this nonsense? How many bureaucrats does it take to change a lightbulb?

Although I'm glad my state (WA) got rid of this clown I am sorry that he's been foisted onto the entire nation. Of course that's Obama's doing, not the state's.

One can only assume that progressives think that the planet's climate is supposed to stay at never changing state despite the fact that it has NEVER been that way in the past.

Too many progressives have watched the Star Trek episodes about a planet named Risa where they control the temperature to make it a tourist planet. Well, note to all you silly progressives out there...Star Trek was fiction. There is no planetary weather control satellites in real life.
