New Country Music Star Born as Pro-Life Ballad Climbs the Charts
Life Site News ^ | NASHVILLE, Tennessee, February 8, 2010 | Peter J. Smith

NASHVILLE, Tennessee, February 8, 2010 (LifeSiteNews.com) – A new country music star has been born - and with a pro-life ballad, no less, that is steadily climbing the country music charts.

Matt Kennon’s debut hit single “the Call” has risen to No. 39 on the Billboard 200 list of top country music hits and packs a compelling pro-life, or what some may call a “whole life," message.

Accompanied by his guitar, Kennon sings about the lives of two individuals that would have ended very differently without the timely intervention of a phone call. The music video for “The Call” – already played on Country Music Television – captures even better the happiness in so many lives that would never have happened without “the call.”

The first part of the song focuses on a young man – a despairing U.S. Marine in the music video – on the cusp of pulling the trigger of his gun to take his own life. Just then, a friend calls his cell phone and asks him to come along for a motorboat outing. The friend tells him that the girl he likes will be there, and that she was excited to learn that he might join them. The friend says, “You better not miss it ´cause buddy I swear / It won´t be the same / If you ain’t there.”

Awesome song, loved it. Even if I didn’t like it I would buy it just to support the meaning of that song.

Another one is “There goes my life” by Kenny Chesney. I don’t like all the music he puts out, but that song is FANTASTIC!

Whole Life is a ripoff ... Term Life is the way to go.

Haha.

Never heard of the guy, but I’ll have to look him up.

Nice song. Country is not my preferred genre, but I liked the sentiment.

BTW, My son asked me the other day if there were any rap artists who sang about caring for their children or something uplifting and positive like that. I said probably, but I they might be too busy to become famous. Does anyone know of any?

(I don’t think my son actually even likes rap music, he just doesn’t want to be sad, thinking that everybody in it is completely raunchy.)

Got a chuckle out of me!

Taylor Swift is the ripoff. It’s a shame that all you have to do is have a banjo pick five notes in the background and it’s called a country song these days.

There is Christian rap. My wife just started gigging with a country band. Two weeks ago we were setting up the stage and one of the bartenders decided to get up and entertain the crowd by rapping. He actually had moral lyrics, but there just ain’t a market for long-haired white rappers talking about how much they love their families.

I hope they keep squawking, just shows how petty and ridicules they really are. They are the one’s victimizing women. Half of all babies aborted are potential women and all abortions are done on women. How more violent can you get?

The Call lyrics

Today was gonna be the day
He´d already wrote the note
And parked that Chevrolet
At the end of that dead end road
Had his finger on the trigger,
just about to end everything
He was taking one last long breath
when he heard his cell phone ring

And his best friends say man where you been?
We´re headed down to the lake this weekend
You better not miss it ´cause buddy I swear
It won´t be the same If you aint there
And I told that girl that you like so much
You were coming along and her eyes lit up
I better let you go, man I really hope
I didnt catch you in the middle of anything
He said ---You kinda did, but I don´t mind at all
I´m glad you called

In another town down the road
In the backseat of a car
Two 18 year olds had let a kiss go to far
He said how are we gonna have this child
When were both headed off to school?
He convinced her late one night there´s only one thing to do

She was scared to death in that waiting room
When the nurse asked how far along are you
She said 5 weeks and just about then
her phone lit up and his call came in
Saying Baby, I was wrong about everything
I´ve already bought you a diamond ring
we´ re gonna start a life
Would you be my wife
Boy or girl; pink or blue;
yeah either way All she could say
as she felt those tear drops fall
was I´m so glad you called

If someone you know is waiting on your mind
And needs a friend on the other end line
Don´t hesitate what you say may seem so small
But who knows
They might be glad you called

So make the call

Yeah make that call

"My son asked me the other day if there were any rap artists who sang about caring for their children or something uplifting and positive like that."

Will Smith has been a real schmuck since obama was elected, but he had a good one in 1998 with Just The Two Of Us

“...My son asked me the other day if there were any rap artists who sang about caring for their children or something uplifting..”

Will Smith has a re-worded song, “Just the Two of Us.” That is about his love for his son. It’s a very good song with an uplifting message. Will Smith does his conventional rapping... he does a great job... This is the same man who sang “Parents Just Don’t Understand” and was the star of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

It’s the only one I know of... But I’m no expert.
