Amnesty chief suspended after attacking group's links to 'Britain's most famous Taliban supporter'

A senior Amnesty International official has been suspended after attacking the human rights charity for allying itself with 'Britain's most famous supporter of the Taliban'. Gita Sahgal, head of the organisation's gender unit, branded Amnesty's links to former Guantanamo Bay detainee Moazzam Begg a 'gross error of judgment'. She was removed from her post within a few hours of her criticism...and now a bitter war of words is raging between the activist and her employer. Both have angrily defended their position over Mr Begg, 42, a Briton held at Guantanamo for three years until 2005 because of suspected links to al-Qaeda.

Sahgal insists Amnesty, which is the world's biggest human rights organisation, should not be closely associated with Begg because of his role as a figurehead for a campaign group called Cageprisoners...

It has championed the rights of jailed al-Qaeda members and hate preachers, including Anwar al-Awklaki.

Al-Awlaki, who was subsequently banned from the UK and is now said to be a commander of al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, is also thought to have met Christmas Day bomber Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, alleged mastermind of 9/11, Abu Hamza, the hook-handed cleric facing extradition to the U.S. on terror charges and hate-preacher Abu Qatada are also all mentioned on the Cageprisoners website....

Miss Sahgal, 53, an expert on religious fundamentalism who has a 30-year history in human rights campaigning, claims the group 'actively promotes Islamic Right ideas and individuals'.

Miss Sahgal immediately released an angry statement online, claiming: 'Amnesty International has sanitised the history and politics of ex-Guantanamo detainee Moazzam Begg, and completely failed to recognise the nature of his organisation Cageprisoners...Amnesty has created the impression that Begg is not only a victim of human rights violations but a defender of human rights....

As long as you have Presidents of The US who care about what this group says then they will be headlines.

Amnesty International, the biggest terrorist supporting outfit on the planet.
Like all hard line, left wing outfits, they can dish it out, but sure as heck can't take it, and are as dictatorial as hell.
Quick, get Glenn Beck to interview this woman.

How do you spell Great Britain in Arabic?? I'm afraid this ONCE great country has succumb to the murderous vile religion of Islam. When will the English people wake up to the fact that their policy makers have endangered their existence? May the Koran and its followers burn in hell!! The Koran IS satan!!

Well there IS that. But at least we have ONE, let us count that again; ONE career liberal feminist who opposes Islamic radicalism.

And she didn’t even base her opposition (from what I read) on their abyssmal treatment of women, but on their furtherance of international terrorism.

Good for her!

Unfortunately, Amnesty International is a multi-national, or perhaps pan-national, organization. Although it is headquartered in the UK, the British shouldn’t be assigned all of the blame for this. According to Amnesty International, the United States is the greatest human rights violator on the planet.

Funny how organizations like Amnesty International never get around to checking communist, kleptocratic or Islamic countries.
I guess their investigators never get shot, or imprisoned in the US.

Obamerica prosecutes American troops as “war criminals” (even when the charges are bogus and they are eventually cleared) yet wants to prosecute the mastermind behind the thousands of civilian deaths on 9-11-2001 as “crime crime”.

The sham is exposed. These groups are not antiwar. They are antiAmerican. They don’t give a wig about other groups that do worse.

But they were very active in denouncing the Hondurans for trying to save their Constitution.

I'm afraid this ONCE great country has succumb to the murderous vile religion of Islam.

They have succumb to political correctness which has left them defenseless in the face of a more aggressive ideology. Islam is just the latest manifestation.
