What the Vatican is fighting against is the attempt by the ‘First World’ nations to push ‘population control’ on Third World peoples who may not want it. Usually it’s done in the form of forced birth control and abortions, both of which the Vatican opposes.
Precisely! That would also go for the political structures in places like Bangladesh, and some African countries.
Mexico's problems have always stemmed from the fact that they operate under mercantilism, and have done since the Spanish ruled them. They've never been a Democracy or even a true Representative Republic, so the population is trapped by the decisions made by whoever the ruling party happens to be. That breeds corruption, and those who can play the system do well, while those who don't, don't.
Why do I have to be careful before I respond?
But the premise is correct. We are facing a huge demographic crash, which will cause all sorts of havoc world wide.
“People OVERALL are an asset, however.”
I don’t disagree, but they can still be an unfair financial liability - recognizing that the Pope, and many taxpayers may have a different view of what is “unfair”.
In the end, this is why it is a good thing that we are not a theocracy.
That may be one motive of the Vatican, but it has also been their position that the “1st world” is responsible for everyone else’s poverty, when the truth is that native cultural and political conditions are the primary cause of poverty in the developing world; and it is also TRUE that telling poor people with starving children to go ahead and have more babies IS NOT A GOOD MORAL position!!!
“we are not a theocracy.”
We are a theocracy. All nations are. The question is, which theo?
“Why do I have to be careful before I respond?”
Because it was God Himself who said to be fruitful and multiply. Saying He was wrong is dangerous to you.
In many poorer countries folks have lots of children, because many of those kids don't make it to adulthood, same as it used to be here in the US when many families were poorer and didn't have access to good health care, services, etc. They have the kids to work the land, or to be able to take care of the parents when they are old.
“The Vatican says that we in the ‘First World’ should be generous with the poor, wherever we find them.”
Sorry, you are confused. The Vatican directly blames the advanced countries for the poverty of the poor countries - it’s our fault. You can nuance your thoughts about what the Vatican means to say just as they nuance their words to try to hide their contempt for capitalism, but when their words are un-parsed the intellectual truth comes out. They blame the rich for the poverty of the poor.
And again, the importance of words is the affect an honest person knows they will have. And in that regard the Vatican is dishonest with its words on birth control and poverty, because if that were not the case it would condemn as immoral the act of parents knowingly taking food out of the mouths of their own starving children, by having more children they cannot afford. But instead the Vatican knowingly talks about the issue in ways that does not discourage that and knowingly gives moral sanction to bad family planning.
What do you think the consequences would be?
“Saying He was wrong is dangerous to you.”
“What do you think the consequences would be?”
For questioning God’s word? Damnation. That was what the Serpent did in the Garden of Eden. “Yea, hath God said?”
LOL
