Riverside's police chief is being investigated in a hit-and-run crash with his city-issued car early Monday morning, raising questions of drunken driving and an alleged cover-up.
Russ Leach was placed on medical leave following the 3 a.m. single-car wreck near Central and Hillside avenues, though officials acknowledge he was not injured.
His own patrol officers stopped the chief at Arlington Avenue and Rutland Street, more than three miles away. His black Chrysler 300 had blown multiple tires and suffered heavy fender damage, officials said.
On Tuesday, after allegations that police supervisors had ordered an initial report that omitted officers' suspicions that Leach had been drinking, the investigation was handed to the California Highway Patrol.
The guy must be a tool. If he was liked, his own guys wouldn’t have written any paper at all, and he would have resigned in a couple weeks “to pursue family obligations.”
A police cover-up!?
Gee, what a surprise !
