Will there ever be Israel/Arab co-operation?
Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs ^ | February 8, 2010 | Vice Prime Minister Silvan Shalom

Posted on 02/11/2010 4:36:40 AM PST by jerusalemjudy

Regional cooperation begins with resuming negotiations with the Palestinians. In the interests of achieving a just, lasting, and comprehensive peace, Israel sees the economic domain as one of the cornerstones of good relations.

Political dialogue with our Palestinian partners is critical, but it will not be furthered by allowing a settlement freeze to be imposed as a precondition to negotiation. Nor will it be advanced by a unilateral Palestinian declaration of statehood.

Beyond the Palestinian question, the largest obstacle to regional peace is the current Iranian regime, which continues to do everything in its power to undermine the moderate regimes in the Middle East, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process, and the good relations that Israel might have with Muslim and Arab countries.

If Syria is transferring missiles to Hizbullah, then Syria cannot be serious about making peace. Although Syrian rhetoric is full of references to that country's willingness to negotiate, Syrian support and financing of terrorist organizations belie the claim. Still, Prime Minister Netanyahu has stated clearly that he is willing to resume negotiations with Syria without preconditions.

If Israel decides to hitIran, a whole lot of cooperation will come from the likes of Saudi Arabia and egypt who want to take down the crazies in Iran.

Maybe, but even if that happens the arabs will still hate the Israelis.

I have been under the impression, for a while, that the Egyptians would much rather deal with the Israelis than some of their Arab co-religionists. The Israelis, at least, aren’t trying to overthrow the Egyptian government.

"Will there ever be Israel/Arab co-operation?"

Yes, shortly after you hear the trumpet and hoof beats . . .

I can not blanketly say that.

If you recall this Chritsmas day murderer wannabe’s father dropped a dime more than once to let us know his kid is garbage and to watch out.
As long as they have some like that I will hold out hope.

You’ve got it right. The Saudis, most of the smaller Gulf states, Egypt and Jordan all fear the Iranians far more than Israel. The cooperation will last until exactly one minute after the Iranian regime is defanged but right now it’s real and growing.

How else do you think Israeli warships get to pass through the Suez Canal? It doesn’t happen without the Egyptian’s blessings. That wall going up at Rafah on the Gaza-Egyptian border? Remember that Hamas is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood and is just as dedicated to overthrowing the Mubarak regime as they are to destroying Israel. Hamas is an Iranian proxy.

It’s already clear that the Saudis have given tacit approval for use of their airspace as well.

Fear makes for strange bedfellows just as necessity does.

Instead of Israel doing the dirty work I’d love to see Iran and Saudi Arabia kick hell out of each other along with their proxies.
Also Israel need to stick it to Syria. Syria is bitching that they want the Golan back. Israel gives that to Syria and they relinquish the high ground and LOSE.
As a person from America do you like living in Israel? Difficult transition?
Oft times fearful?

I’m probably the wrong person to ask about making aliya. My father was Israeli and much of my family lives in Israel. (I’m actually visiting the States at the moment.) I’ve always felt at home in Israel and the transition for me wasn’t typical because of the support from family and friends in Israel I had waiting for me.

Fearful? No, not at all. If you’re not in the territories or right near northern Gaza the Israel is a peaceful country nowadays. Iran is worrisome, of course, and so are the Iranian proxies on our border.

Thanks for the informed information, anotherview.
Better to go to someone who has experience for Correct answers.
Do you think Israel will hit Iran if Iran pushes its nuclear bomb program. And don’t relay any b.s. Iranian line that their nuke program is purely for energy purposes.
Also IF Israel hits Iran what will happen in your opinion?
Also do you think Israel will EVER give up the Golan?
Not just me you are informing so from us all
Thanks and stay safe.
