A Haitian judge said on Thursday he had ruled in favor of the release of 10 U.S. missionaries accused of kidnapping 33 children and trying to take them out of the earthquake-stricken country.
"I just signed the request for the release of the 10 Americans submitted by the lawyers and I have sent it to the prosecutor's office," Judge Bernard Sainvil said.
Under Haitian law, the prosecutor can formally comment on the judge's decision but he cannot overrule it.
Sainvil earlier told Reuters that once the prosecutor had given his opinion, he could formally issue a release order.
"They can go directly to the airport if they want and leave, but they should provide a guarantee of representation if further questions need to be asked," he said.
The missionaries, most of whom belong to an Idaho-based Baptist church, have been in jail since they were stopped at Haiti's border with the Dominican Republic on January 29.

Meanwhile the half of the kids have probably starved to death. What a rat hole.
No thanks to Hillary and the State Department.
Great news. This was putting a pall on the evacuation of ANY Haitian orphans, because everyone from the agencies to the pilots were afraid to deal with orphans even if their cases had already been cleared (because with the Haitian government in its present chaos, who can know what has or has not been signed, and who does or does not have the proper papers?)
I used search. Now that I read the other threads they appear to represent the ruling before it was formalized. This confirms the ruling.
Good news
I’m glad the judge got it right.
God bless these people for sacrificing to try to help these poor children.
Not sure how many are going to go running down there to help now. I know I won’t.
“the judge got it right”.
I think we will soon find out it was a case of the right amount of money in someone’s pocket in Haiti to get them out.
Wait until these Americans are safe on our own soil for the real story to come out.
Haiti is one of the most corrupt nations on the earth.
Praise God!
