Medina Campaign: Dead End?
Gateway Pundit/ First Things Blog ^ | Feb 11, 2010 | Jim Hoft

Posted on 02/11/2010 12:13:18 PM PST by GeronL

This was a textbook case on how to end a campaign in one interview. Tea Party candidate Debra Medina imploded today on the Glenn Beck radio show. The Republcian candidate for governor is a 9-11 Truther. She said questions still remain. Trail Blazers reported:

TV and radio commentator Glenn Beck dismissed the candidacy of Debra Medina when she left open the door to a conspiracy fringe group that believe the U.S. government might have been behind the 9-11 destruction of the World Trade Center.

Beck, a leading personality for conservatives, asked her point blank if she believed such a theory.

“I don’t have all the evidence there, Glenn,” Medina replied. “So I’m not in a place – I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There’s some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there so I’ve not taken a position there.”

He then asked if she would disavow people on her campaign team that held such a theory.

“I’m certainly not into mind control or thought policing people,” Medina said. “I don’t see us having a team of radical individuals, if you will.”

When she signed off the program, Beck let out a long Oooh.

Medina Campaign website ():

I was asked a question on the Glenn Beck show today regarding my thoughts on the so-called 9/11 truth movement. I have never been involved with the 9/11 truth movement, and there is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11. I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way. No one can deny that the events on 9/11 were a tragedy for all Americans and especially those families who lost loved ones.

The question surprised me because it's not relevant to this race or the issues facing Texans. This campaign has always been about private property rights and state sovereignty. It is focused on the issues facing Texans. It is not a vehicle for the 9-11 truth movement or any other group.

The real underlying question here, though, is whether or not people have the right to question our government. I think the fact that people are even asking questions on this level gets to the incredible distrust career politicians have fostered by so clearly taking their direction from special interests instead of the people, whether it's Rick Perry and his HPV mandate or Kay Hutchison and voting for the bank bailout. It is absolutely the right and duty of a free people to question their government. Texas does not need another politician who tells you what you want to hear, then violates your liberties and steals your property anyway. I fully expect to be questioned and to be held accountable as Governor, and that's the underlying issue here: should people be questioning their government. And the answer is yes, they should be.

Why did she not give that answer in the first place? Why is that not her automatic position?

I wonder if she did it on purpose as she saw her campaign gaining ground, and was never really interested in doing more than “shaking up” the other candidates.

I dunno.

She’s done.

At least we won’t have a bunch of Freepers bashing Sarah Palin for not endorsing her now.

The real underlying question here, though, is whether or not people have the right to question our government.

No one's questioning the "right to question our government".

But accusing the Bush administration of being complicit in an attack on NYC is waaaaaaay more than "questioning our government".

Because post-interview she realized that her campaign just imploded on a national broadcast...

Typical BS political backpedaling.

She wasn’t asked whether people should be allowed to question the government — she was asked for HER opinion on THIS topic. Her opinion is apparently that “she has an open mind” about the possibility that the Bush Administration was complicit in the 9-11 terrorist attacks.

She’s finished, and she knows it.

Her and McCain could be clones. He always has fulsome talking points to make himself look normal when cornered.

She should make a decision on the information she DOES have. If everyone (especially governors) waited to make a decision until they were absolutely sure they had every shred of evidence (real or fabricated)—we would all grind to a screeching halt.

She should say something like “Based on what I have read the theory does not make sense to me. If and when credible new evidence comes to light I will evaluate it.”

I am changing my vote to Perry. I don’t care WHAT her lame website statement says.

She said on national TV that maybe the truthers are right.

I hope she loses bigtime and does not force a run-off.

What a disgusting display.

Exactly right. This is nothing but spin. She got caught trying to be politically correct in her answer. She got caught being the politician we all want to NOT be in office. If she truly believed what she wrote (or her campaign wrote for her) then that should have been her answer right off the bat. The question would not have caught her off guard if she had real convictions about the truthers being a bunch of loons.

Well, she had a chance to give that answer in the first place and muffed it. Oh well. There are questions to which there is only one right answer and this was one of them. What I said was “this” but what I meant to say was “that” never works. Just ask John Kerry.

I hire a lot of Mexicans to work for me at different times of the year. I always make sure their papers are in order and I always ask them this question, “If a war broke out between the US and Mexico, what side would you fight on?” There is only one right answer. In fact there is only one right way to answer it. If too much time is taken thinking before giving the right answer, then you are disqualified also.

Medina: "I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way".

Medina statement after hemming and hawing on Beck. The lady isn't ready for Texas Prime Time.

Beck - Medina Truther Exchange

The above You Tube is about 4 minutes of the exchange where she talked over Beck and never made a denial when she had the chance. Poor Poor showing. She's now trying to cover up her screw up and time has basically ran out on her.

Sad really.
