Since 1941, Captain America has been one of the most popular comic book characters around. The fictional super-patriot fought Nazis during World War II, took on those who burned the American flag during the Vietnam era, and raked in hundreds of millions of dollars for Marvel Comics along the way. Now, the appearance that he is taking on the Tea Party Movement in a storyline about investigating white supremacists has forced Marvel to apologize for the comic hero.
Issue 602 of the comic features Captain America investigating a right-wing anti-government militia group called "the Watchdogs". Hoping to infiltrate the group, Captain America and his African-American sidekick The Falcon observe an anti-tax protest from a rooftop. The protestors depicted are all white and carry signs adorned with slogans almost identical to those seen today in Tea Party rallies like "tea bag libs before they tea bag you" and "stop the socialists."
The Falcon mentions that the gathering appears to be "some kind of anti-tax protest" and notes that "this whole 'hate the government' vibe isn't limited to the Watchdogs." He then tells Captain America that he doesn't think their plan will work because "I don't exactly see a black man from Harlem fitting in with a bunch of angry white folks." Captain America then explains that his plan entails sending The Falcon in among the group posing as an IRS agent under the thinking that a black government official will most certainly spark their anger.
The clear implicit attack on the Tea Party Movement was first noticed by Publius' Forum's Warner Todd Huston. When a minor uproar ensued, Marvel Comics editor-in-chief Joe Quesada spoke to Comic Book Resources and defended the issue while apologizing for the panel that seemed to tie real-life Tea Party protesters to the fictional group depicted...

Could this be where Fatso Meghan McCain got her idea that tea party protestors are racist? From reading comic books? As vapid as she is, it wouldn’t suprise me. It’s probably all she’s capable of reading.
As of September 2009, Marvel is now a part of the Disney empire. Enough said.
This isn’t the first time.
I think Marvel is losing a lot of its audience over this.
I don’t know how widely this is out there though.
Because they are the haters. They can't stand protest, they won't put up with those who dare to challenge their Establishment views. They think they're right about everything. Liberals demonize us because it's easier to use name calling and scare tactics than to listen to what we're saying...
We’re spending ourselves into oblivion. Socialism doesn’t work. See the history of the last century. Tax cuts do work.
As we continue to pile up debt and raise taxes, we are relegating this country to second-class status. No more innovation. No more creativity. We will stagnate.
Well at least we now know where their minds are................
If I had been Marvel...I would have been more careful about political ‘scripts’. The movie Captain America has been discussed for a couple of years and supposed to be produced soon...but in this case...if half of America refused to attend because of this stupid comic...then they shot themselves in the foot.
Where do I sign up?
There’s no such thing as a “happy liberal”. To be a liberal, you must be miserable and hate. You wake up hating. You spend all day hating. You go to bed hating. And you dream of hate all night long..................
Marvel Comics now targets American citizens exercizing their constiutional rights.
Remarkable. Who will then call in next, Superman??
That would be one of those movies I would have to see, but given this latest news I'd wait for it on Blue Ray and not visit the Box Office. If Marvel steps out of line again I think I'll just let their products hit the discount bin before viewing.
I can be patient. :)
Got that right. I know several people who used to be die-hard marvel subscribers. But they left several years ago already. The last straw was Thor making fun of an obviously Catholic Church and it’s priest.
It happened when I was about 13.
I can see why comic book artists and readers are Obama supporters though. If you live in a comic book world you'll believe Obama.
You’ve met my ex????
LOL!!!.............No, I just know liberals..............
I dont live in a comic book world but I buy comics. I have known for a VERY LONG TIME that Marvel is a lefty publisher. Many years ago, there was one issue of X-men where Storm prevented to destroy the Sentinels because...there was a Prius on the street.
I wish I was making that up. DC comics tries it’s best to tow the line and my liberal radar is always up, believe me. Recently, Special Forces’ comics became one of my faves because they unapologetically draw and tell the story of big boobed blonde SF soldiers in the Middle east killing Muslim terrorists in the “dumb blonde mode’.

The reason is simple, they worship envy, which is nothing more than hating all things good.
Next time you have a long conversation with a liberal, if it is possible, count the number of times the say, “I hate....”.....................
