Reid kills Baucus-Grassley jobs bill (Dems demonstrate bi-partisanship)
Politico ^ | 2/10/2010 | James Hohmann

Members of the Senate Finance Committee unveiled a long-awaited bipartisan jobs bill Thursday morning – only to have it scrapped within hours by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.

Reid killed the bill after hearing complaints from members of his own caucus who argued that Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus (D-Mont.) had gone too far beyond the core goal of job creation in order to win over Republican support.

It was a major rebuke for Baucus, who’d spent weeks working with Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican on his committee, trying to come up with a bill that Republicans would support.

I wonder if they thought the bill wouldn't get that far so they could blame Pubies.
It's not inconceivable.

This turned out better than I expected. Reid just gave the GOP a gift.

I wonder what calculus, if any, went into this.

I would think the Dems should jump at the chance to pass a “bi-partizan” pork-laden bill. First, it feeds their base, second, it inoculates them against Republican charges, and thirdly, it would drive the wedge between the Tea Party and the Republicans.

That they didn’t, despite the White House urging them to, points to either stupidity or real fear that as the economy tanks some more after their handiwork passes, the people really come after them with pitchforks.

So far Republicans are doing an almost perfect job.

Even though only 40% of the Senate Republicans have been able to almost totally stop Obama’s and the democrats/Marxists socialist agenda, not allowing most if not all of the democrats’ main socialist bills from becoming the law of the land.

God bless you GOP.

And Michael Savage and other liberals and some brainwashed populist “conservatives” still say there is no difference between the 2 parties, democrats and Republicans.

Bipartisanship is a euphemism for the 70’s ‘better red than dead” mantra.

Good points — if the experienced RINO Grassley cannot work out a “bi-partisan” bill in months of efforsts, then most Rs and most of the public need to learn that for the Demagogues “bi-partisanship” means simply R. submission and groveling.

Cut taxes and cut government spending 20% this year and things will be fine.

Learning, it’s a slow painful process.

The only learning that is slow and painful is that the Republicans aide and abet the Democrats by pretending to be slow and painfully stupid. They are neither - they are passively helping the Rats by doing nothing precisely when doing nothing is the most helpful to the Rats. Watching people come up with endless excuses for this traitorous deliberate, knowing, calculated Republican behavior is what's slow and painful.

Thank you, Lord.

Who's going to pay somebody 40,000 a year just to get a 6,000 dollar tax credit.

Bunch of effing Rahm Emanuels.

Who's going to pay somebody 40,000 a year just to get a 6,000 dollar tax credit.

In order to reap the maximum benefit ($6600 savings in matching SSI), the salary would have to be $106,000.

If you are a small businessman, would you hire an employee you didn't need and pay him (or her) over $100 grand...to save $6 grand?

It's insanity -- borne of Democrats who have no experience in business and have no idea how it works.

When this is all said and done, the Dems will put up a bill that extends unemployment insurance, obligates money for road construction (hugh, where was that in porkulus .1), and it will have some make work government job creation boondoggle that doesn’t do chit for creating jobs.

Dems hate tax cuts, they want us dependent on them.

Republicans need to get in front on this and howl to the moon about how the Dems destroyed the Bi-partisan Jobs Bill and vote against this next version which will be Crap.
