Debra Medina implodes on Glenn Beck's show
Kansas City Star ^ | 2/11/10 | By Yael T. Abouhalkah, Kansas City Star Editorial Page columnist

Medina is facing off in a GOP primary with Gov. Rick Perry and U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Medina's absurd comments to Beck about U.S. government involvement in 9/11 included this gem:

"I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn, so I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard, there are some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that."

Perry and Hutchinson immediately ripped Medina for such ignorant comments

It's cute. She said something really stupid and now she's trying to unsay it.

Build a time machine. That'll work.

Glenn Beck transcript, Medina interview:

GLENN: I have when I said that I was going to have you on, you can’t imagine the mail pro and con that I received. There was a theme that ran against you and that is you are a 9/11 Truther.

MEDINA: Well, there’s lots of mud that people would like to throw at Debra Medina and make stick. The truth is I’m an everyday ordinary person. I am fighting for the things that our founders fought for, those very basic principles of a constitutional republic, and I’m going to champion people that hold their government accountable, hold me accountable but that’s the first time I’ve heard that accusation. So that’s an interesting one.

GLENN: Right. Here’s then let me be more frank and ask you the question: Do you believe the government was any way involved with the bringing down of the World Trade Centers on 9/11?

MEDINA: I don’t, I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn. So I don’t I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard. There are some very good arguments, and I think the American people have not seen all of the evidence there. So I’ve not taken a position on that.

GLENN: I think the people of America might think that might be a yes.

MEDINA: Well

GLENN: Do you have advisors, do you have advisor

MEDINA: I’m not going to take a position.

GLENN: That’s fine.

MEDINA: These questions have been raised and they are not answered.

GLENN: Do you have advisors that advise you or people that are around you that are 9/11 Truthers?

MEDINA: Not to my knowledge.

GLENN: Would you, if you found out that there were, would you disavow them like the president should have but I mean, he escorted them out in the middle of the night. Van Jones was a 9/11 Truther. If you found out that people around you are advising you were 9/11 Truthers, would you disavow them or allow them to continue to advise you?

MEDINA: Well, you know, that’s a federal issue. We’re very focused on issues in Texas, on Texas state government. I’m certainly not into mind control or thought policing people.

GLENN: No, that’s a pretty big one.

MEDINA: We’ve got a very diverse team in this state and that’s because Texans are standing shoulder to shoulder to support and defend the Constitution. I frankly don’t have time, you know, to go through and do psychological testing on people and know every thought or detail that they have.

GLENN: No, I don’t think it’s psychological at all.

MEDINA: I don’t see us having a team of radical individuals, if you will. I think that there are certainly some that are looking, trying to use scare tactics. I you know, are there people?

GLENN: No, I don’t think they’re scare tactics. Debra, you’ve answered the question.

MEDINA: Yeah, are there people that have tried to come and be a part of our team

GLENN: Right.

MEDINA: that have not gotten on the team? Absolutely there are. But I can’t

GLENN: Yeah, I understand. Debra, you’ve answered the question.

MEDINA: You know, I don’t know. That’s so out of context, it’s difficult for me to answer.

GLENN: There’s

MEDINA: I think it would depend on, you know, how vocal they were about that and how much I thought it colored whatever other talent they brought to the table.

GLENN: Yeah. Okay, Debra, thank you very much. I appreciate it and best of luck to you.

MEDINA: Thank you, Glenn.

GLENN: You bet. Bye bye. I think

PAT: Problematic?

GLENN: While I don’t endorse anyone

PAT: Problematic?

GLENN: I think I can write her off the list. Let me take another look at Kay Bailey Hutchison if I have to. Rick, I think you and I could French kiss right now.

PAT: Let me tell you something. He’s a damn handsome man.

GLENN: He’s a damn handsome man.

PAT: Looks good in a pair of jeans.

GLENN: Wow.

PAT: He’s a handsome man.

GLENN: Wow. The fastest way back to 4%.

STU: (Laughing).

GLENN: Holy cow.

PAT: I mean, and we’re going to I’m going to hear from people in Texas. How can you take her we just asked the question!

GLENN: Asked the question.

PAT: Because we got all the rumors, I expected her to say oh, absolutely not.

STU: Even if you are a Truther, there’s an easy answer to that

PAT: That is not what she said.

STU: which is of course not; what are you talking

PAT: Absolutely not, I am not a 9/11 Truther.

GLENN: I mean, but at least give her credit.

STU: Give her credit, she told the truth.

GLENN: Give her credit for telling the truth.

PAT: She didn’t lie. Yeah, she didn’t lie.

GLENN: But you know what? If you believe the United States government blew up the World Trade Center, there should be no other higher priority, no other higher priority.

PAT: And I don’t want to hear from you if you are a 9/11 Truther on her side.

GLENN: Yeah.

PAT: Save your e mails.

I know who 0bama would want you all to vote for between the two. Perry, the tool.

She is so not toast.

I’ll be so happy to see the status-quo, Democrat-*ss-kissing RINO get the boot.

Too late.

The first thing one learns in the U.S. Navy is that “you can’t unf—k something up”. Too bad Mrs. Medina was never in the Navy.

Looks like four more years of Gov. Hair-do.

It was a softball question with an easy answer. “No.”

It may have been out-of-the-blue — though given her response, I’m not sure it was (where there’s smoke ...) — but it doesn’t take much studying come up with an answer to that question. It wasn’t a pop quiz about leaders of obscure nations ... it was a simple question “Do you think the US Government had any involvement in the 9/11 attacks”.

She shouldn’t need to prepare an answer. The fact that she did need to prepare an answer means the answer is likely not “no”.

She is incompetent, and unqualified to govern this state.

Which part of this is unclear

None of it.

So why not use THAT as the answer the first time?

She began the interview with packaged talking points answers and would not stop until she had finished reading them...in my opinion.

I was already questioning her as a candidate before THE QUESTION. She was not convincing about her surprise to be asked that question since she again launched into a prepared statement.

That response was the second reason NOT to vote for her.

Glenn Beck was rude and cut her off and did not ask her anything about the campaign. This was not a fair interview. This wasn’t even an interview.

Nobody is questioning her right to question.

It is the “answers” that she thought she came up with, or her idea that there was/is a conspiracy hiding the answers to her question, that should be troubling to any sane person considering voting for this moron.

The people working overtime at FR are your folks from the unqualified Medina campaign. She should not have been running to start with because of no experience.

The insult to Sarah Palin by some of you Medina people are not going to win votes. Medina sure is not like Palin who had experience as a Mayor before running for Governor.

Your candidate stuck a fork in herself on what should have been an easy question to answer. Not ready for prime time but then most did not realize where she came from. Hope it teaches people a lesson that because people say they are from the Tea Party movement doesn’t mean they are good candidates or even conservative.

Democrats would have had her for lunch in the general election and getting a run-off would have wasted money.

The gig is UP!

“I have never been involved with the 9/11 truth movement, and there is no doubt in my mind that Muslim terrorists flew planes into those buildings on 9/11. I have not seen any evidence nor have I ever believed that our government was involved or directed those individuals in any way.”

Which part of this is unclear, Perrybots?

This part ...

“I don’t have all of the evidence there, Glenn, so I’m not in a place, I have not been out publicly questioning that. I think some very good questions have been raised in that regard, there are some very good arguments and I think the American people have not seen all the evidence there, so I have not taken a position on that.”

and I don't give a rip about the aggie yell leader.

If you want the same ‘ol Republicans to get you the same ‘ol leftist government, then vote for Perry.

If the status quo Republican is so wonderful why is the country so GD far to the left after three decades of mostly Republican rule?

They’re selling you out.

See you back here in 10 years or so in worse shape than we are already in.

Team GOP is weak. They will not save this country from the hard left. Not a chance in hell.

She was always toast to anyone who understood the difference between fact and fiction!

Exactly.

She's a Ron Paul acolyte. She couldn't answer Glenn's question because she was worried about offending the large contingent of "Troofers" in her support base.

Then when it hits the fan, she backpedaled.

I wasn't buying her garbage before and I'm certainly not buying it now.

It doesn’t matter if it was a set-up. She should’ve been able to sidestep the landmine. She didn’t and it blew up in her face. It isn’t the question that disqualified her ... it was her monumentally stupid answer.

I do not understand how ANY conservative could vote for her after she admitted that she entertains the notion that the Bush Administration may have been involved in 9/11.

She has permanently and irrevocably lost the vote of this Texas Republican, as well as my entire family (8 voters). Like Beck said, “fastest way back to 4%”. She’ll be there before you know it. She’s done.
