Rhode Island Democratic Rep. Patrick Kennedy, the last member of his illustrious family currently serving in Congress, will announce on Friday that he is retiring, according to Democratic insiders.
Kennedy, 42, was first elected to Congress in 1994. He did a stint as chairman of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee in the 1999-2000 cycle but has not served in the House Democratic leadership beyond that.
His congressional tenure was marked by repeated substance abuse problems, including a drunk-driving incident in 2006. He entered a rehab facility at that time and again in 2009.
Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-Mass.), the congressman's father, passed away last year. Democrats unexpectedly lost his seat last month to Republican Scott Brown.

His congressional tenure was marked by repeated substance abuse problems, including a drunk-driving incident in 2006. He entered a rehab facility at that time and again in 2009. IMHO anybody who has had such problems shouldn't be allowed to run. One time I can understand but repeatedly then I don't think they should be allowed to run.

To Mr. Kennedy, who most famously said recently Scott Brown’s election was a joke, I can only say, “He who laughs last, laughs best”.
We are rekindling that shining light in a city on a hill.

Who the hell retires at 42?
What a scam of a political “dynasty”. Without the media created myth and two generations of American guilt over assassinations by a left wing extremist and an act of Islamic terrorism we’d never have to have put up with Teddy and the rest of Joe’s evil offspring.
