I am just outside of Bellingham and enjoying the Canadian coverage. It’s too bad the rest of the country is stuck with NBC.

It was in very poor taste. I had to turn the channel really fast because my 5 yr old was watching with me. I bet LOTS of kids were watching the opening of the olympics. They really didn't need to see that.

Whistler’s beautiful. We’re heading back once the Olympic madness is over; can’t get near the place right now.

I don’t have cable or satellite and I get local channels for free.

Why on earth are they showing footage of that Georgian lugers final moments??A more serious question is why track designers put those pillars where they did. Didn't the engineering profession learn anything from the crash that killed that British woman and her lover in a Parisian tunnel?

Finally at 915 pm, my local cable company has started the opening ceremonies.
After watching those aboriginal people hopping around, I am embarrassed for Canada. The first 20 minutes are horrible.

Not just that--it is now being reported that lugers had been kept from the track until the last two days, and that some of them had immediate concerns about unsafe design. I wonder if any lugers are going to drop.
It's a little piece of metal, no pun intended. It's not worth dying for. Prayers for the Georgian team.

Unpadded pillars at that! I guess they are building up that wall he flew over, which was entirely too low. What’s maddening is they’ve known that this track is exceptionally dangerous for some time now. A young luger from LA broke her back on that exact turn while trying to qualify for the team a few weeks ago.
