GOP responds to Obama's Health Care Summit invite: No Thanks?
Washington Examiner ^ | 02/13/10 10:36 PM EST | By: Susan Ferrechio

House Minority Leader John Boehner, R-Ohio, issued a statement late Saturday in response to President Obama's Friday invite to a bipartisan Health Care Summit at the White House.

Boehner and other Republican leaders are complaining that the event is simply political gamesmanship and that Obama is planning to have a health care deal finalized before anyone even sits down at the meeting, which is scheduled to take place on Feb. 25.

Here's Boehner's statement:

A productive bipartisan discussion should begin with a clean sheet of paper. We now know that instead of starting the 'bipartisan' health care 'summit' on Feb. 25 with a clean sheet of paper, the president and his party intend to arrive with a new bill written behind closed doors exclusively by Democrats -- a backroom deal that will transform one-sixth of our nation's economy and affect every family and small business in America. They will then engage a largely handpicked audience in a televised 'dialogue' according to a script they have largely pre-determined. They will do this as a precursor to embarking on a legislative course that Democratic congressional aides acknowledge has also been pre-determined -- a partisan course that relies on parliamentary tricks to circumvent the will of the American people and engineer a pre-determined outcome. It doesn't sound much like bipartisanship to me.

They should go.

Read the ‘clean sheet of paper’ statement.

See who blinks.

If Obama says anything other than ‘O K’, literally get up and leave the room.

Live on all three networks, cable, etc.

Let’s hope the Pubbies can stay united and tell our Marxist leader to shove it. Unfortunately, it would not be surprising to see a few Rinos capitualte.

Just hope it sticks.

Me, too. They ought to be getting enough support from the polls, us FReepers and others to realize that they are entirely on the right side of the argument and it make NO sense whatsoever to allow the left to have half a loaf of marxism.

Fight to win, pubbies. You know: we win, they lose?

Go for it.

You (Republicans) don’t agree to any health care summit at the White House where 0bongo controls the setting. The summit must be on neutral turf

If Republicans have any cojones they say — “With all due respect Mr. President we will not be summoned to the White House for your photo op but are willing to meet you and your party halfway in an uncharged neutral location”

A military base near DC would be a good neutral location. Lots of security can be easily cheaply set up

Biden is on the morning talk show lying his ass off. Remember Obama was against the Iraq war and against the surge and was going to pull out immediately. Lied on all three.

The GOP now has the clout to control the format, and can demand a clean slate here. If they relinquish this in any way, they will get slaughtered again.
We can all hope for the best.

Yes, Charles Krauthammer was stuck in traffic and he allowed the other panelists to answer the question about what the Republicans should do about the invite to the “Blair House” for the televised “healthcare summit” and when they each answered, Charles said “now I will give the correct answer, send only Paul Ryan,” and went onto explain that Paul Ryan is more knowledgeable than Obama and everyone else who will be in the room.

When everybody was making a strategy for this meeting, the simple answer was no, we ain't playing that game. Where was the invite before we had 41 Sinaters?? Hey, Dumbo its a new day and we're taking our Country back!

41 men standing between Freedom and Tyranny.

Pray for America's Freedom

I don't see "No" anywhere in this statement. Talk is cheap. We'll see what they do by the 25th.

#28-— Summit must be at a neutral location. Not where king 0bongo summons the peasants to have an audience with him at his palace. Anyways who is playing there tonight? Earth Wind and Fire?

I like that.

Clean slate and see who blinks.

If Obama doesn’t give in, leave the room.

It’s being held at the Blair House, but I understand your point.

It’s still Obama’s “setting.”

I saw that and Kruathammer was very funny and had the correct approach. Have one man, Paul Ryan, represent the GOP instead of them all raising hands like school children to be called on by 0bongo

speaking of that... during WWII, German officers approached American lines a the demand that the American Commander surrender in 2 hours or face annihilation. The response was a letter written as follows:

To the German Commander: Nuts!

- The American Commander

Nuts, of course, meaning “nothing doin” or just “go to hell!”

The Germans thought it was some kind of code until the meaning was later clarified.

I propose a similar response.
