U.S. city considers surrender to 'green police'

What would life in an American city look like if it required its residents go green to combat climate change? Would it be all trees and gardens and bicycles, or would it look more like oppression under Big Brother's green thumb?

Cambridge, Mass., home of Harvard University, may be giving the country a glimpse of the answer.

Last May, the city officially adopted an order recognizing that there is a climate emergency; but after nearly a year, officials discovered the city's carbon footprint was nonetheless growing worse.

Cambridge Mayor Denise Simmons, therefore, brought together nearly 100 activists and concerned citizens under the endorsement of the city council to convene a "Climate Congress" to make recommendations on how Cambridge can meet its green goals.

The official report of the Climate Congress provides a sneak peek at how life in Cambridge may be about to dramatically change.

"This emergency is created by the growth of local greenhouse gas emissions despite the urgent warnings of climate scientists that substantial reductions are needed in order to reduce the risk of disastrous changes to our climate," the Climate Congress reports. "This proposal is made in the belief that an effective local response is, if anything, made more urgent by so far inadequate global agreements and federal policies for emissions reductions. It is made in the belief that our City should lead by example."

The government already wants to set our thermostats through a “SmartGrid”.

I want to see neighbors fighting over food. That would be a realistic test of the future of greenism.

Why does that guy’s coat say “homo” spelled backward?

LOL! Cause that's the new Cambridge Police Dept. You gotta be gay to be a Cambridge cop. :-)

Actually the explanation for OMON is below:

OMON (Russian: Отряд милиции особого назначения; Otryad Militsii Osobogo Naznacheniya, Special Purpose Police Unit) (ОМОН) is a generic name for the system of special units of militsiya (police) within the Russian and earlier the Soviet MVD (Ministry of Internal Affairs). As of 2008, there is an OMON unit in every oblast of Russia, as well as in many major cities; for example, there is an OMON unit within the Moscow City police department, and a separate unit within Moscow Oblast police department. Their motto is "We know no mercy and do not ask for any."[1] OMON also continues to exist in Belarus and some other post-Soviet territories following the collapse of the Soviet Union. Contents

I live in Central NY where it's about 80% State land, houses scattered around, most are just summer homes. According to the bureaucrats, last year our air quality registered as bad so new laws were imposed. Never mind that they fudged the numbers and lowered the standard that year. Previous years we were perfect.

If my extremely green area is bad, then there's no way that Cambridge could ever get green unless they demolish everything and move the people out.

I felt sort of bad after I called the lib an idiot. But not so much after seeing your post. I was wondering if I was the only one that caught that lib trying to sneak in here.

Are you talking to me? Boy some you are some anti-intellectual knee jerk fools. Did you even read the post? Did I say that I wanted some omnipotent force to raise the price of water? Just like oil, the price of water will rise because of population trends and SUPPLY AND DEMAND!

You don’t want to spar with me. Your thought process is indicative of a young liberal. Your name calling proves that.

It is funny how some people just have no ability to think outside of the box. How many of y’all are just talking in the mirror here, this is group think at it’s worst.

Any different ideas and then all of a sudden you are a mangy liberal. You people are such fools, the younger generation of conservatives will be much different then y’all. In fact, I would argue that I am more conservative then many people here. It is funny how you fools get liberalism and LIBERTARIANISM mixed up.

Now, I am not fan of Ron Paul, but I wonder how many times he has been called a liberal on this forum.

You can hate the guy, but at least get y’alls terminology right!

I hadn't even addressed anyone in this thread and my post was pretty respectable FILLED WITH CONSERVATIVE PRINCIPLES (localized politics is one of them by the way i.e. look at medical marijuana and the conservative Justices opinions in Raich vs Gonzales). Nevertheless, you chime in with this: Dude. Stay out of my shower. I’m paying for the water. Idiot. So please tell us, oh wise one, what is that INDICATIVE of??

And your rally to get freepers to be empathetic to liberal lunacy environmental causes will fall on deaf ears here.

You will learn that conservatives base decisions on facts and not emotions.
Furthermore, conservatives care and contribute more to the preservation of the environment than liberals ever have.

Wow jerk, really??? Maybe if you actually read through my post instead of having a knee jerk reaction and calling me an idiot, you would know that is exactly my opinion on the issue.

My parents are about as conservative as it gets, but they would be Global Warming advocates best friends! My Mom has always hounded me on turning lights off, taking short showers and not wasting food.

So, would you call someone a liberal for espousing this idea:

What if I said we would never run out of oil? One day, it will be at such a low supply and such a huge demand, wind mills and solar power would be more economically attractive and there will be no reason to pump oil out of the ground. Now, I think this trend will happen without the government intervening. In fact, I don't care who is office I will literally put my money on the fact that alternative energy and technology like water osmosis will be the foundation of the next equity boom and stock market bubble comparable to the last Tech Boom phenomena that originated in the early 80's.

Am I liberal for having that though process?

According to the bureaucrats, last year our air quality registered as bad so new laws were imposed. Never mind that they fudged the numbers and lowered the standard that year. 1998 - Central Florida was on fire. An entire county was evacuated. Due to our location and sea breezes we hardly ever have bad air quality so we've avoided the EPA regs in that regard. But early 1998 Central Florida was dry as a bone, a tinderbox just waiting for some lightning. When it came and the fires started, they were around for awhile.

Not long after the fires were out, the eco-nazis were hot on the trail to get EPA bad air quality regs instituted here in Central Florida because our long string of "bad air" days qualified us. Of course, the fact that the "bad air" days were due to forest fires escaped the burrocrats. It was all the same to them. In the end though we managed to avoid the heavy hand of the unelected EPA.

Conservative doesn’t mean short showers and turning lights off. Hitler’s mommy probably told him the same thing.
Look, I’m on a blackberry and its too much of a pain in the ass to argue all night. You are throwing out a lot of topics here including a lot of assumptions regarding oil and water. No doubt taught to you in school.
