Despite Netanyahu pressure, Russia defends Iran missile deal

On the eve of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's visit to Moscow, senior Russian security officials were speaking out on defense-related issues that have provoked tensions between the two countries.

An hour before Netanyahu's plane took off on Sunday, Russian officials said that Moscow sees no reason to delay the sale of the S-300, a powerful air-defense system, to Iran. In addition, on Friday, Russian intelligence officials leaked comments expressing their displeasure with plans by an Israeli firm to close a major arms deal with Georgia.

"There is a signed contract [for the S-300 missiles] which we must follow through on, but deliveries have not started yet," Vladimir Nazarov, deputy secretary of Russia's Security Council secretary, told Interfax news agency in an interview. "This deal is not restricted by any international sanctions, because we are talking about deliveries of an exclusively defensive weapon."

With Iran's acquisition of the S-300 (SA-20B Gargoyle), the Israeli Air Force will not be able to take out the nuke facilities without being shot down, because there is not a squadron of F-22 Raptors available.

Why were the hypocritical Bears whining about US controlled missile defense towers in Poland, anyhow? And why did Obama blink?

He didn’t blink. It’s just that he doesn’t work for the United States.

Delivery of these systems will put the hands to midnight, meaning that all the waiting (for perchance the overthrow of the mullahcracy by the Iranian people) has not worked out; not sure Israel will strike Iran first, probably strike its proxies. Israel prefers commando operations or covert ops (such as assassination, or abduction for trial in Israel). At the very least, ground observers will be present to verify the exact spot where the air strikes have to hit and to verify that the strikes were correctly carried out.

Even F-22 is not problem for Russian air defence technology

Russian "anti-stealth" radar NNIIRT 1L13 Nebo:

The most important thing that it can be integrated with S-300 SAM.

"Published performance data indicate that this radar has sufficient accuracy to be used as a battery target acquisition radar for the S-300PMU-1/2 / SA-20 Gargoyle and S-400 / SA-21 Growler Surface to Air Missile systems. Numerous Russian sources are citing exceptionally good performance against VLO/LO (stealth and stealthy targets) aircraft targets."

Oh boy, oh boy.

The S-300 and S-400 (SA-20 and SA-21) family of long-range SAM batteries are the best area denial air defense system Russia has ever built and exported, matching or even marginally surpassing the latest Patriots.

S-400 (SA-21 Growler)

PAC-3 Patriot

I doubt the Israeli Air Force will ever be able to eliminate the Iranian nuke facilities unless it occurs prior to the SA-20 deployment in Iran, and the batteries could be possibly operated by IRIAF missile crews under Russian supervision.

Hate to break out the bad news, but the SA-20 deployment would give the Iranian IADS a huge boost in air defense capability, unifying the land and ship-based SAM and AAA batteries, along with radars and jet fighters under the IADS umbrella.

Zero is giving them sanctions. Iran is so scared, a rooster could learn from the strutting.

I wonder if Israel will attack before November and thereby give Dems a boost in the US midterm elections, after Obama goes through the motions of “acting tough.”
