Walter Russell Mead: DC Post Runs With Climategate; NY Times Still in Tank
The American Interest ^ | February 15th, 2010 | Walter Russell Mead

The New York Times turned down the Watergate story, giving the Washington Post ownership of the story of the decade. Now the Washington Post is going for a repeat, scooping the somnolent Times on the Climategate story. The Post story by Juliet Eilperin and David A. Farenholdt is no skeptic’s dream, but Post readers now know something that Times readers are still in the dark about: the climate change movement has taken a serious hit in recent weeks as allegations of misconduct and high profile errors undermine the credibility of the key institutions and figures in the movement.

The Times‘ behavior is increasingly hard to explain. In the last month the paper has given away a huge story once again, this time handing it over to the British press overseas and, over here, to the blogosphere and, finally and belatedly, the Washington Post. Coming at a time when the Times is on the defensive in terms of its journalistic reputation and its financial health, the impact of the current failure is likely to be significantly greater. Authority is the Times‘ most important asset; by missing Climategate the Times is not only doing its readers a serious disservice. It is reinforcing the narrative that the Grey Lady of the mainstream media is too slow, too hampered by inhibitions and bias, too close to its sources, to serve as a reliable source for news.

This Sunday’s “Week in Review” would have been a perfect place for the Times to give readers a thorough, balanced and informed account of the swirling accusations and revelations that promise to end the Obama administration’s ability to deliver on its commitment to pass comprehensive climate change legislation in 2010. News of the political collapse of the climate change movement was deemed unfit to print; it would ...

U.N. Climate Panel and Chief Face Credibility Siege

This was on the NY Times front page, but like the WaPo story mentioned in Mr. Mead's commentary, they all still want to believe in the so called science of AGW.

The damage these clowns have done to science is hard to overestimate.

We'll watch with glee all the damage the left will do to themselves, the educational establishment and the state run media from this AGW fraud, IMHO.

Walter, stick with analyzing foreign affairs.

The times has no authority. It has no credibility. It has no standards. It has no ethics. It has no business model. It is a propaganda ministry for the international communist left.

Approximately everyone within the orbit of Mars knows all of the above. Some just like it, and others mince words about it in a misguided desire to be polite to notorious communist liars.

“It is reinforcing the narrative that the Grey Lady of the mainstream media is too....close to its sources, to serve as a reliable source for news.”

The NYT’s boy Andrew was an integral part of the scam.

The MSM has made the mistake of trying to be politicians instead of just reporting on politics, and have taken on an agenda to make/change history rather than report it.

No democrat party media outlet has yet gone after all the crooked Washington politicians with stock options, investments, and other financial interests in the Man-Made Global Warming Hoax.

To cite but one example, The British press reports that Al Gore stands to become the world’s first carbon credit billionaire.

And I’ll bet the farm that Pelosi, Waxman, and loads of Obama scum like Carol Brownner are all in for the fix.

British research into Al Gore’s criminal profiteering:

They're using Alinsky again..."when in trouble, step on the gas."

The kenyan owns the times, and they are playing their dutiful role as propaganda arm to try and "re-whip" up a global warming frenzy...the money is drying up, ya know.

But, the public knows...and they know the public knows. They're just hoping it's another bill (cap & trade) that congress will try and ram down our throats.

global warming is frozen in place...dying from "overexposure"...never to be heard from again.
