Cold snap killing Florida's coral reefs

THE polar snap enveloping much of the United States in record cold has been killing off coral reefs and causing iguanas to drop out of trees in the normally balmy warm waters off the Florida Keys, experts said today.

The unusually chilly weather so far this year has seen sea temperatures plummet in southern Florida - a fatal development for the coral, which dies when exposed for an extended time to temperatures below 15 degrees Celsius.

Especially in the lower Keys, "temperatures have been lower ... there is higher mortality", Diego Lirman, a University of Miami expert on coral, said.

Florida's usually mild and sunny winter weather has given way to record low temperatures during the historic cold snap in recent weeks.

In Miami, the thermometer in January and February regularly dropped below 1.6 Celsius, the coldest temperatures since 1970.

Those damn corals are never satisfied. Last I read, they were dying because the water was getting too hot. I have an idea. Let's stop worrying about them. They've survived millions of years so far, I guess they will outlast us.

If there was just some way to stop ALL weather...... just not have any weather at all.

If it were up to people like Gore and his criminal cohorts, we would have never evolved.

Global Warming has little downside.

Global Cooling can be catastrophic.

Given the incompetence of the scientists involved in Global
Warming it would not be surprising they overlooked the signs of impending Global Cooling.

Do what I do; toss another piece of wood into the stove. It heats the house and increases my carbon footprint. A win win situation from where I sit.

I’ve been here in the Lower Florida Keys since 1976. I’ve seen some cold spells before, like January 1981 when it was 36 degrees on Cudjoe Key where I lived at the time. That was the same day that snowflakes fell in Marathon in the Middle Keys.

But in those 34 years, I’ve never seen anything like this year for prolonged cold. Yesterday I looked at the National Weather Service website just to see how much colder than normal it’s been and I see that in the 45 days year to date, 75% of the days have been double digits below normal. We’ve had a massive fish kill in the canal system behind my house and trees in the yard that have shed all their leaves. ots of the green vegetation left is browned out from the cold winds.

Water temps on the reef about three weeks ago were in the low 50’s, easily 15 degrees colder than anything I’ve seen before.

I keep telling myself that Spring WILL happen eventually, even though it seems unimaginable at this point. lol

Well, now we have BOTH global warming AND global cooling to worry about, so we better double up on the taxes to help combat them.

Bingo You Win a Life Time Supply of Sun Screen !

Warmer climate tracks with periods of great civilizations.
Rise of the Mesopotamian civilizations
Rise of Mycenaean Greece,
etc.
Primarily because its period of time where food production is accelerated.
We are clearly in a interglacial period
The possible sobering thought is how close we might be to the next extended deep freeze. Some of these “climate warming” guys were claiming the deep freeze was coming back in the 1970s. However then they were NOT claiming that this "climate change" was man-made like there are now.

It isn’t “killing” the coral reefs. It knocks them back a bit but they recover. All those “irretrievably dead” reefs of a few decades ago have flourished since.

“WOW just WOW. Not only is it not warming it appears to be drastically cooling, which is much more dangerous.”

Al Gore and his other Global warming scammer cohorts are desperately trying to find a way to make a buck off this news. (In best elongated Al Gore accent) Spin: “Our efforts to stop gloBull warming have been so successful the coral reefs are dying off from the cold being produced. We'll have to make a few adjustments...”
