Posted on 02/16/2010 10:09:59 AM PST by BarnacleCenturion
Spokesman Eric Fehrnstrom says Romney and his wife were on an Air Canada flight to Los Angeles on Monday when Romney asked the passenger sitting in front of his wife, Ann, to raise his seat back before take off.
Fehrnstrom says the passenger then became enraged and took a swing at Romney.

Member of the Ruling Class
Yeah, I knew someone would point out such an obvious, glaring inconsistency.
Political aspirants make good use of "coach."
o, ha ha, LOL!
Nothing more than a cheap way for Romney to get in the headlines again — at the expense of another human being.
You folks are truly sick in the head.
Get out. Get some fresh air. Get help.
1. Romeny riding in coach.
2. A passenger “that has no idea who Romeny is” takes a swing at Romeny.
3. The story makes national news, and now everyone knows what a “regular guy” Romeny is because he rides in coach.
Do I believe this was staged to help Romeny’s political aspirations? Of course not (wink wink, nudge nudge).
Great PR work by someone.
What you said.
Why was he flying coach?
Airline flying can correctly be identified as a form of abuse nowadays.
Seating class wasn’t mentioned in this article, was it?
You are supposed to have the seat in the forward position for take off and landing. I’ve done the same, asking the person to put their seat forward, sitting behind someone who does not follow this simple procedure. I guess that makes me a member of the ruling class.
Don't know or care, but thanks for pointing it out. Lot's of ankle-nipping going on at FR these days. Is it time to exterminate already?
I read an article about this yesterday that said he was in Business Class.
As was explained on one of yesterdays numerous threads about this incident. That type of airplane doesn't have classes. It's just a small tube.
Ahh, yeah, we really needed a Romney spokesman to report the incident.
Stop calling me Shirley.
The cheapskate wasn’t flying first class????
If anybody saw Frontline (PBS) last week “Flying Cheap” Would make sure they had some rosary beads with them when they flew.
Kinda hard to fly first class on a plane that doesn’t have first class. Try flying first class on Southwest. Guess you’re a cheapskate too.
Your post was based on the assumption that he was in coach...and he wasn't in coach.
So, your joke sucked.
If anybody saw Frontline (PBS) last week Flying Cheap Would make sure they had some rosary beads with them when they flew.
Can you elaborate?...
I flew once from Dallas to Mpls with some scuzzball college kid in front of me who got all indignant with my idea that he needed to un-recline his seat for take-off, despite repeated requests from the now seated and buckled attendants. I told him that when we landed, and got into the terminal, I planned to pull his arms off. He straightened his chair out after that, and didn’t move it. I hate flying, because it’s too hard stay free of obnoxious people.
“That type of airplane doesn’t have classes.”
See #26. You’re wrong.
Wow, I don't think there's enough gold in Ft. Knox to buy you a clue, Joker.
Should I bother, should I invest even a moment of my time, to diagram the assumptions and premises of my post for the residents of Rio Linda?
But I will say it was completely devoid any politcal c*cksucking, which yours isn't.
Now then, you would-be, self-proclaimed "conservative:" what, exactly is your considered opinion of the Founders' regard for the political class?
Mind you, I don't really want to know, and won't even read your replies. But maybe you can figure out what I'm suggesting.
And then again, maybe not.
It looks like Romney was in this flights equivalent of coach even though there seems to be some disagreement about that on this thread.
I can't stand Romney, but everyone simply assumed he did something to deserve this.
I'm not sure if I answered your question, but I don't even know what it was. Your post rambled and was very disjointed. Although I'm sure it sounded brilliant in your head.
The airline business in order to save money now contract out. Even though your ticket says Continental most likely you could be flying out on some carrier with tired, underpaid pilots. The crash last February in Buffalo was caused by pilot error by inexperienced pilots on an aircraft they were not familiar with.
Let me weigh in, as someone who flies 4 segments a week. As a courtesy to the passenger behind you, NEVER recline your seat. It provides only marginal comfort to the reclining passenger but severely limits the space of passenger behind. I have had my laptop mashed dowm dozens of times. And then, I have some dandruff infecetd scalp nearly in my lap. Romney should have done the punching.
Thanks...I appreciate the info. Sadly does not surprise me with cost cutting across the board. YIKES.
If you have a chance try to catch the the film over at pbs.org.
The Colgan Air flight 3407 that crashed was a Bombardier DHC 80402 Q400 model. It is a new aircraft and neither pilot had real experience with it.
Have a brother in law who flew for Pan Am who was so upset when deregulation happened in the late 70’s.
These piots who now fly for these regionals do not get a yearly salary. They get paid for completed flights.
Their salaries are a disgrace to the responsibilities they must bare.
