(WSB Radio) -- A seven-year-old girl is recovering after she was attacked by a pit bull mix. Cobb County Police Sgt. Dana Pierce tells WSB the little girl was walking home from school in front of the Valley View Mobile Home Park near Eastside Drive, when the dogl came after her. That's when a neighbor, who saw what was happening, ran to her aid, possibly saving her life.
"He went out with a piece of wood and actually struck the dog and was able to get the dog off of the seven-year-old girl," said Pierce. He then scooped the child up and took her to Kennestone Hospital. She was then airlifted to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston with a serious leg wound.
"Those injuries to her leg were originally thought to be very, very serious. Those injuries and her condition have since been upgraded," said Pierce.
The dog is in the custody of animal control and will likely be euthanized. Charges are pending against the dog's owner.
My vet has explained that the reason dogs will attack children is because they are down on eye level with them and see them as another animal rather than as a human. Often a child will be attacked if they get to close to the dogs food dish, I have witness this myself and the dogs were not pit bulls.
What were they bred for?
Euthanize the dog, certainly, but sue the arse off the owner and leave him/her homeless along with any family they might have....that could give others thoughts on buying this nasty breed..
Valley granny
The rest of your post makes good sense.. Some breeds can be trained to attack and protect, with pits its instinctive to attack.
Dalmations have a bad reputation as biters so do Cocker Spanials. Biters and attackers are 2 different things..
Sweet Rachael Ray (celebrity TV chef) has had a pit she has had on her show that has attack 5 times and the poor dear is afraid she might lose him.. For some people there is no cure for stupid....
I was recently on a pit lovers site, and it seems all those that have the breed are pis$ed off at her big time for giving the breed such publicity...Her hubby is a lawyer and is in deep damage control right now..
Thats why bad publicity about the breed brings out the lovers. It puts the dog ownership of that breed in a "bad" light....No cure for stupid..
Detail this scientific knowledge on pitbull genetics for me granny. Please?
I think you just described politicians. ;-)
And, yes, I do have experience with this "bred to kill breed". A friend of mine was attacked by 2 last year while riding his bike in a neighborhood. 60 stitches later and he was as good as new (except for the lifelong scars).
While I’m not a pit bull lover in particular, I do love my dogs. They are not really bred to fight, they are just used for that. The correct name for them is Staffordshire Terrier, and I believe the largest of the terriers. They are just a terrier, nothing more or less. If one is raised from a puppy and treated and trained as it should be, they make wonderful pets.
LOL I think your right on that one.....:O)
For a few I would agree with you....for most, I think not, wouldn’t trust one with my grandkids on a bet...but I would trust my lab with them...
I've done my research, granny, for years. I know the hx of the breed. I wanted any science behind your statement that "these dogs have genetic backgrounds that make them unstable and not to be trusted". There isn't any facts (scientific or otherwise) to back that statement up.
Advice: Learn the difference between fact and opinion.

Hey,Granny,,,
There goes another $100k or more down the tube,,,
The chopper ride now runs around $10k,,,
All for the lack of a $.50 bullet,,,
Ain’t folks wasteful,,,
Sooner or later all the insurance companies are gunna drop
the hammer on on this mess,,,
They will get their info from the same place we do,,,
Wait for the whinin’-n-cryin’ to start...
I doubt if you have any experience in genetic backgrounds of any dog, at least you know nothing about Pits and pit/crosses...Most maulings and deaths Pit and Pit X is #1 and Rottys are number 2...Read some stats on it. all states keep such records when a person is mauled. Police reports taken hospital records etc....look somemore you are missing a lot. And if you expect me to do your research, that will cost you some money...I wouldn't work for free to do your job.......:O)
You could start a google, dog and maulings and death. It will bring up lots of them...not all but the largest majority are pit/pit X/ rottys....:O) all the best on your search..
but city folks should be looking forward to those defaults. With revenues shutting down to nearly nothing for big government, they’ll be getting rid of a whole lot of trash.

We called that a Free-Fire Zone in the olden days,,,LOL,,,
Gunna be a whole lotta trash taken out if/when the wheels

P.S. : The local thugs never got that memo...
