Posted on 02/17/2010 5:37:21 AM PST by IbJensen
A former member of the Palestine Liberation Organization who has converted to Christianity says a Saudi prince is now the second-largest shareholder in Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation, the parent company of the Fox News Channel.
For years the Fox News Channel has described itself as "fair and balanced," free from what some consider the "Kool-Aid" of liberalism and political correctness of other national news agencies. But Walid Shoebat, former Palestinian terrorist who is now a Christian, says ever since Saudi Prince Alwaleed bin Talal became a major stockholder in Fox's parent company, he has been able to influence its news content.
Walid Shoebat small"He himself said, 'I just had to make a phone call to [tell them to] stop using the word Muslim' regarding the rioting in France," Shoebad notes. "Bill O'Reilly says to Ibrahim Hooper, the head of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), that he is an upstanding citizen. Since when was the head of CAIR an upstanding citizen?" he wonders.
The former terrorist adds that viewers will no longer be seeing any so-called "Islamophobes" on Fox.
"Today, I'm not invited at Fox News. Neither is Robert Spencer or Brigitte Gabriel," he laments. "But Ibrahim Hooper is invited to speak at Fox News. It used to be that experts on terrorism who are critical of the Islamic views [were] able to get a voice on Fox News. Those days are gone."
Shoebat concludes that instead of airing those critical views of Islam, Fox News now legitimizes Hooper, the spokesman for CAIR, a group which he maintains is a front for the terrorist group Hamas.

Meanwhile, thank God for Free Republic and the internet!
An example of why media should never allow foreign ownership or large share stock holding.
America has been buried.....
There is CNN.
I ain’t dead yet.
Makes a person wonder if FR can remain “free” if by chance it were to have several millions sent as a donation?
What would Jim do if one day he had say $20 million or more in a single donation?
Makes a person really wonder, they say every man has a price.
I’ve given up on FOX, and bet many more will soon. Just look at oreilly and beck denying the truth about the messiah. That’s enough to make you puke.
OK do you really think because he owns 7% of News Corp he now sits in on production meetings? Do you see him telling Glenn Beck to shut up? Come on there is plenty to worry about in this country, this ranks 200000016.
Same here bud, but the bulk of America is subject to Fox and other products equally skewed, It not about objective reporting anymore. Its about politics. Clearly, we can see the composites in influence, to the point where we have a zombie representing foreign interests as president....
and from what I see, its no longer about America. ITs about foreign interests.
Islamophobes’ what, exactly?
This Islamophobe may have to stop WATCHING Fox if they’re going to cave in.
If this is true, then Fox needs to hear about it. I find myself watching Fox less and less and don't know what guests they now have concerning Islam and terrorism. Maybe some of the conservative media watch dog groups are keeping tabs.
Matt Drudge had a show on FOX, and he wanted to show a picture of a pre-natal surgeon doing a procedure on a fetus. In the pic, the fetus had a grip on the surgeon's thumb with his tiny hand.
Drudge did not even mention the word abortion, he just wanted to show the picture. FOX nixed it, saying that the pic might be "too disturbing" for some of it's audience. Drudge wouldn't pull it, so he was axed.
I lost all respect for FOX then and there.
Nitpick elsewhere, please.
PC is a deadly disease.
What is up with this flood of “FOX News is controlled by the Saudis” stories? I don’t necessary take FOX as the gospel truth, but I have a hard time believing that a <10% stake gets you such an iron fist of control. Smells a bit like a coordinated propaganda effort.
Glenn doesn’t talk about Islam and Islamic terrorism.
I guess this means by my very posting of my opinion it will mean that Free Republic won’t be given any massive donation...with strings attached.
Sorry Jim for sinking the ship.
Well I hope they try, honestly I dare them to try and buy off Free republic like they are doing to FOX.
I demand they put up or shut up.
Whattsup with Sean Hannity, Fox and his new book? Some’n goin’ on deah. Me’um tinks.
Sean fills his space with Newt Gingrich, who is a gorebal warming sycophant.
Like it or not, there are other issues when we actually can get traction. The courts aren’t going to remove Obama and that’s a simple fact.
A better use of your time would be push individual states to pass legislation requiring proof of eligibility and even then it isn’t likely to remove Obama. After all, when I jumped on board with the birth certificate issue, I felt that Obama himself was only a sign of the problem uncovered. The serious flaw in our system is bigger than Obama.
At this point I think it is you who is being used.
The Saudi’s need Fox to keep Obama up against Iran.
Nah, Sean wanted to take the book somewhere but it got gutted, I think. A surprise gutting.
If your in grizzly country, alone and unarmed does that make you a “bearophobe”.
These leftists and their templates.... it would be funny if this world wasn’t full of do-gooder ding dong public school and ivy league spawn.
I wondered about that, too.
This is the third story of this in about 5 hours. (or variation of)
Yes, but who are these people? The ones who have sold out, so they say that to denigrate others who haven't, or won't, or wouldn't if not for evil council
Good point, when Fox starts acting like a goat herder and we are the sacrificial goats I’m loading ammunition.
What do you base that on? Do you have something to back that up, or is it just speculation?
Yes it does. Part of the "Fox News Is Evil" crowd turning down the blinding rhetoric a bit and trying to insinuate "evil intentions" little by little.
Somehow I just don't see the people who run Fox News as catering their highly successful commercial product to a 7% saudi interest. It ain't happening.
The only true conservative is the one defining the meaning of a true conservative. All others are RINOs.
All I can go with as a guide is what I feel in my heart, I see sell-outs posting here at FR, I could not say they are actually on a payroll system but to me they are sell outs hoping to recruit others like a bunch of robed persons at an airport.
I too have been losing interest in BOR lately.
It is way bigger, older than Free Republic.
Power attracts bad people. Bad people want others to sink to their level. Bad people want to weaken the people and their morals. The cheapest, easiest, most assured is not by drugs and material temptations, not even gold or money, but by control of ideas and the process of thinking itself.
It is our minds that rule us. It is through filling our minds with bad ideas that we are weakened. This is why the left, the communists, the Democrats and all the bad idea people before them have always wanted to take control of the schools, the pulpit. To have control, as much as possible, over peoples minds.
If you control minds, and the ideas, you don’t need chains nor guards. The people will guard, chain themselves.
The majority of people are passive thinkers. They choose their view of the world around them, with the ideas that have been accidentally, or by plan, presented to them.
This is why the elite send their kids to very, very good schools and why both Republican and Democrat elites support very very mediocre, if not bad public schools. They get to think, and we get to be taught not to think, and/or to dislike thinking. This gives them a open field when it comes to the combat of ideas. Their army has gone to the best of schools, ours to the worst of schools that are so bad as to be even worse than no school at all.
as a resident of Phoenix, please know all...JD Hayworth is givin
Juan McLettuce all he can handle.....he sure could use a bit of cash tho...
That is a very well thought out and descriptive narration that we should take to the heart, we all have weaknesses, its human nature to be flawed.
Its also human nature for others to rule the weak, to gain devotion and loyalties by harnessing basic mans desire to better themselves financially or spiritually.
I may have a meaningless pointless view, we see people that are eccentric, appear to be in their own world or just plain obsessed, I speak out for people like Orly Taitz, Limbaugh, Farah at WND just to name a few, they are condemned daily as kooks, radicals or seditionists.
In times like lately I tend to listen to them or watch their actions more closely, in cultures long ago in history people exactly like them would be the Shamans or religious leaders or prophets, they were shunned, ridiculed and often outcasts, but the tribes used them for guidance in troubled times.
There just may very well be a lot more than we see than what we see and here on TV or the internet.
Islamophobes' what unwelcome at Fox News?
Ok? And we’re supposed to believe this guy because? It wasn’t too long ago that Bill O’Reilly was calling these guys “Clowns” while talking about the KSM trial.
AH OK? He said last week he thinks they should rip KSM’s heart out.

These campaigns are designed to dramatize communists and their front representatives as “champions” of the masses. They foster the illusion that these individuals are progressive, enlightened, and humanitarian, acting in the best interests of the American people. “We stand for freedom when everybody else is not interested.” That is the illusion.
The real motive is to prepare both the Party and noncommunist society for revolutionary action. Members gain experience in mass work: the art of propaganda and agitation, organizing social discontent, guiding large numbers. Leadership, discipline, and organizational structure can be tested. Moreover, communists hope to make workers and the masses class-conscious, accepting the Party as their leader (in Party terms called radicalizing the masses). Sow seeds of discontent; weaken, divide, and neutralize anticommunist opposition; above all, undermine the American judicial process.
Experience over the years has demonstrated that every time communists are able to avert justice through technicalities, there is not only jubilation in Party circles but also increased urgings for more brazen Party action.

“EVERY CITIZEN has a duty to learn more about the menace that threatens his future, his home, his children, the peace of the world — and that is why I have written this book.”
Murdoch only holds 29.5% of the company.
Murdoch had to fight hard to avoid a 2004 hostile takeover attempt. That Saudi 7% is enough to control whether another hostile takeover succeeds or fails. This puts that Saudi prince in a position of having a LOT of control over what happens at Fox.
If FR changed, then freepers would go to another forum. That's the beauty of the Internet -- it takes relatively little capital to establish a presence.
From my observations of Jim's posts over the past decade, the answer would be a resounding NO that FR would not change! People eventually reveal their norms and standards and themselves thereby their character through speaking, or writing and/or associations.
He's given ample evidence through his numerous writings that he's not the type of person that sells out his principles.
Never, every think that. What ever your thoughts, they are a starting point. You should get comfortable with your own mind. They all have oddities, ways of working, of even playing tricks on yourself.
The Nazi's, the Communists, the MSM and liberals all try to get inside our minds, our values, how we view an event and the world.
Don't let them, or me, for that matter be the judge.
Just for argument sake, let's say your are unused to, or feel weak or unsure about....being more sure...of what you already feel about a subject. I say, go for it. Hold that thought as if it is a real physical thing, and then start comparing it to what you see, hear around you.
In that way, you can adjust that first impression, and benign to add bits of reality to it, or illuminate parts that were delusion or you didn't have the information for.
Now the first 'real' thought, becomes a second 'real' thought. Mostly like the first, but a bit different.
In this way, you will get comfortable with holding views, and testing them, and changing them as more information becomes available. And, you will be comfortable with also, never quite having an complete picture, and always an open mind.
Now that is why the elites don't like that ....for you. You will become stronger. They will paint, make, sell, advertise, speech, campaign, propagandize you. But you will be able to take what they tried to enter your mind with, and be able to hold it like a test tube to a strong light, and turn it around and wait days, weeks, years to see if it changes or is what they wanted it make you believe it is.
I know it sounds crazy, but we are all under attack, mentally all the time.
OK so following your logic Murdoch would start changing the format so as to drop ratings so he could appease a person who will try to oust his control. Stay FOCUSED we have to many real battles to fight.
Mr. Bfloguy is making a grammatical point.
When an apostrophe is placed at the end of a word, it implies possession.
He is asking "what" it is the Islamophobe is possessing.
The correct grammar/punctuation would be no apostrophe, as the use of "Islamophobes" is plural, not possessive. :-)
It's too bad that so many Freepers don't get it.
Why wouldn't the Saudis attempt to control our media ?
They've transformed Europe into Eurabia in only 30 years.
