NAPLES The Bush brothers packed the house at the Naples Grande Beach Resort.
Former President George W. Bush and his brother Jeb Bush, the former governor of Florida, spoke Tuesday night as part of the Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series. They talked issues _ everything from health care and the Iraq war to budget deficits and Social Security reform.
George W. Bush, the 43rd U.S. president, has stayed out of the spotlight, limiting his face-time in public since leaving the White House about a year ago.
He and his brother the states 43rd governor addressed a crowd of more than 1,000 who purchased tickets to see them. Tickets to hear the duo speak started at $200.
The brothers had the crowd laughing, clapping and sighing with heart-felt emotions as they showed their more personal side. A few times, George W. Bush fought tears as he talked about the support of his wife in the Oval Office and how his decisions to send more troops to Iraq hurt families in the U.S. who lost their sons, daughters, husbands and wives to the war.

If I had known about this in advance I would have liked to have gone. Jim Angle moderated; he's always intelligent and good at such things.
Had to add this; I think I’ll change my tagline for a while.
Me thinks you missed in adding a "cl" to "class"!
Fox news reported this morning that G. Bush didn’t know who Rubio was.
Don’t know much about Jeb, but George Bush has enough class to not “sound the trumpet before him” when he goes anywhere or does anything...quite unlike our self-serving, egotistical current president.
Get out da Bushes! Puhlease... no more Boooooooooshies!
Oh, shut up.
When Character was King ...
Someone should add a “hole” to your ass.
Very nice article!
Thanks for finding and posting it.
You have wound up a pathetic figure...hate does that to ya
I’ll second the motion, Deb...
Repeating Jesse Jackson. That works. Sheesh.
Love the reception they got...I miss the sense of love and devotion to our nation shared when Bush was in office...and the sense of safety...we knew they were doing what they could to protect this country...unlike now where it seems our Pres. is more for himself/the world/the arab nations than for this nation and keeps on putting us in arms way.
What a difference an election makes
OMG you beat me to it, that was my exact reaction when I read the post.
George Bush always was a classy guy.
I could not believe what a great public speaker he is. He was fired up. Called the terrorists "barbarians", "murderers", "cowards", etc...Teared up when discussing 9/11 and our fallen soldiers.
Not sure if he froze up because he was on TV or because he speech writers told him to take out the "Wanted: Dead or Alive" style. He is much better in person.
Amazing being that close to C-I-C DURING the war.
I agree. I’d take G.W. or Jeb in a heartbeat over almost anyone out there now.
Its not too late.
I’m waiting for George P.
FANTASTIC piece about Pres. George and Gov. Jeb Bush!
Thank you, Mrs. T .. ;)
Thanks for ping.. would have loved to have been there..
imagine you will be sharing this at the Dose..
G. Bush didnt know who Rubio was.
Bush doesn’t know much about Sarah Palin either...
Im trying to remember if Ive met her before. Im sure I must have. His eyes twinkled, then he asked, What is she, the governor of Guam?
I wonder how that Bush bailout is working out.
We haven't seen him lately, have we?
(Sheesh! What a dumb thing to say!)
Sweet article about two wonderful men!
(And the antithesis of the people who hate them).
They were talking about two men with CLASS.
***Me thinks you missed in adding a “cl” to “class”! ***
Here’s a biscuit, now go home.
And if you think that George W. Bush doesn't know about Sarah Palin, you are seriously lacking observation skills.
It's called HUMOR. The President has it. You apparently don't.
LOL, kitkat! PERFECT response! :)
Not only are YOU classless, but a dumbass too. Congrats.
***Get out da Bushes! Puhlease... no more Boooooooooshies!***
>>>Oh, shut up.>>>
Hey, Deb, isn’t there some kind of collar that keeps a mean dog from barking?
Just saw Jenna Bush H doing an interview at the Olympics on our local station. Apparently she’s working for the network as a reporter...Hmmm.
I’ve had my policy differences with both President Bush and Governor Bush, but they are a class act.
If Jeb Bush was named Jeb Smith, with his record in Florida, he would be a contender for national office.
THANK YOU for ‘posting’ or ‘pinging’ this article — I would have loved to attend this event! In fact, I hope the Bush Brothers take this format on the road!!
Way to clean up the mess on post #7 . . . “Oh, shut up” was the perfect reponse . . . And EXACTLY what I was thinking before I read your post!!
You embarrass yourself.
It’s not about whether the Bush/Obama bailout is paid back—it’s about principle, something the Bushes obviously don’t have.
As for Palin...he has said lots of dumb stuff about her.. he doesn’t like her much.
Welcome ... ;)
As Forrest Gump might say, stupid is as stupid does.
You don’t know what you’re talking about.
Deb said it best.
What a sad life to be so deeply angry at millions upon millions of people......most of them good and honorable, but lacking your version of perfection.
God bless President Bush and his family. They are GOOD people. Honorable people. People of deep and strong principle.
The world needs more of them.........and less of those who dedicate their lives to attacking them.
Can you imagine anyone so stupid that he thinks that quoting Jesse Jackson is a GOOD thing to do? LOL!
Cue Twilight Zone theme.......
Seems another lifetime since THE night, doesn’t it? You got the kiss, you turkey, and I only got the handshake. A night to remember for sure.
Thank you for posting.
Just stay off the threads that have the name Bush in the title. You don’t speak for all of us. Sheesh!
We heard and saw President Bush three more times after taht, but none was as spectacular as that night in WVa.
And for that I am eternally grateful!!
(And so is my son, Eric, who so proudly shook the hand of his Commander in Chief!)
(Are you buried in snow down there?)
I'm beginning to wonder if it isn't a mental illness that goes even beyond the "normal" BDS.....
I don't think they could stay away if they tried.
