It seems to me that all these posts from effeminate Ivy League snobs like Will should have mandatory barf alerts. That will save me the trouble of starting to read one.

“The president-elect (Obama) arrived at the Chevy Chase, Md., home of syndicated columnist George Will shortly after 6:30 p.m., according to a press pool report. Greeting him at the residence were other luminaries of the conservative commentariat, including the Weekly Standard’s William Kristol, New York Times columnist David Brooks, and Charles Krauthammer of the Washington Post.”

With the exception of Kristol, I will predict that the other three (Will, Brooks and quite possibly Krauthammer) will endorse Obama for reelection over Palin. This election is shaping up not as liberal versus conservative(although Will etc are not what I would call conservative) but as elite versus populist, similar to the Jackson versus John Quincy Adams election of 1828.(BTW, the elites lost that one 57-43, losing the entire country except.....you guessed it the Northeast)

“Besides, full-throated populism has not won a national election in 178 years, since Andrew Jackson was reelected in 1832.”

This guy will is an Oxford don, with a PH.D from Princeton, an elitist snob to the core and yet he is historically illiterate. Although he was involved in the election as I was, he does not realize that 1980 was such an election. (of course, I think he does realize it and refuses to acknowledge it both because it is so recent that it could be repeated and Palin is just the kind of candidate to repeat it.) Matthew Continetti had an excellent article in the weekly standard analyzing the Jackson-Adams election, Bryan-McKinley and Reagan-Carter elections , concluding that all involved populist versus elite contests and that the populist had prevailed in 1828 and 1980.

The elites such as Will and his ilk, try to present the electorate with two alternatives, both of which are guaranteed to maintain the elite’s power. That is what Will’s idiotic column and many others are about. He would love to present the country with the choice of two elitists, Romney and Obama. That way, the Establishment wins before the first vote is counted.

This is so patently untrue! Gov. Palin has showed ten times the competence of any Washingtonian while gaining heavy EXPERIENCE in governing!

George Will is here participating in a BIG LIE! He talks like a Liberal or, more likely, a NWO.

“According to CBS News, only 29% of registered voters considered then presidential candidate Barack Obama experienced enough to be President in August of 2007, just six months before the Iowa caucuses. This CBS News poll shows that a plurality of Democrat primary voters considered Obama to lack the experience to serve as President. By a almost a 2-to-1 margin, Independents answered the question negatively.”

But after his showing in Iowa, the press anointed Obama as Once and Future King and and offered only adoring press coverage from that point onward. That will not happen with Palin.

None of the other R candidates will get any better, so that argument is a non starter.

“One could make the argument that it’s really only since we started electing yahoos from the lower class like Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Clinton, and Obama that this country has gone to hell in a handbasket.”

Clinton may have started out lower class, but when his mom married his stepdad, Clinton became part of the upper class. Also, Obama spent all his time with his mom Ann Durham, and she was from a well to do white family. I doubt that either of them were truly lower class. Also, all of the pol you mentioned were liberals, except for Nixon. I doubt that Palin is like him in ay way.

Barry Goldwater, whose seat John McCain occupies, chose to run with Bill Miller, a congressman from Lockport, N.Y., near Buffalo.

Congressman Miller is still the only Catholic on a Republican presidential ticket to this day.

Sorry, the point still stands. Any R will get that trteatment from the press. You can say she’s unique in that regard all you want, it doesn’t make it true. Just ask John McCain, former darling of the press, until he bacame the R candidate that is.

It wouldn't matter what the press did. The press has been shilling for 0bama since he was inaugurated, no? The result? 0bama’s poll numbers collapsed, the Democrats lost NJ, VA, AND MA, and 0bama’s # 1 pet project, 0bamacare, has voters adamantly against it in record numbers. The press is irrelevant. The more they attack Sarah Palin, the stronger she gets. Show me how many politicians have ever sold 2 million books in just a few weeks.

So what?
Tell me, how is 0banacare doing with voters right now, despite massive support from the press for 0bama and 0bamacare. And how many books did 0bama sell despite an adoring press for 0bama, as compared to Sarah Palin. How much ratings do MSNBC and CNN have as compared to Fox, Rush, Levin, and the rest of conservative talk radio?

I’m not sold on Palin either (although I like her moxie)—but it makes me laugh when anyone declares with certainty who will and will not be president.

He 'knows' because he lives in Washington. Us 'peasants' in flyover country just don't have a clue. /s

Plus, he's a Princeton man doncha know. :)

Yes, except Washington didn’t resign in the middle of the war for Independence, nor Lincoln in the Civil war, to write books and become wealthy celebrity pundits.

First Reagan and Thatcher, now you’re comparing Palin to Washington and Lincoln?

This Palin worship get’s loonier by the day.

I’m in Texas, and I know the deal. She’s not that well liked, as this poll has shown. I wish it wasn’t true, but it is.

Rubbish. The huge crowds she has drawn at Fort Hood and at her recent campaign appearances for Perry put the lie to your claim. Attendance at all the Texas candidates rallys has been rather tepid EXCEPT when Palin appeared.

BTW, there are several million other Texans who get a vote and they "know the deal" as well... /g

In 2006, Will wrote an article on the handicapping of the 2008 GOP race and thought Romney was in the catbird's seat.

"Yet with Allen much diminished and perhaps out of contention, and with Rudy Giuliani not yet doing serious groundwork for a national campaign, the Republican field is already down to two. That is good for only one of them: Romney."

WTG, George. We're in the internet age. Somebody always remembers...LOL.

Lest I offend you any more, the bigger point would be George Will is not a very good pundit, nor a good bellweather of political fortunes. His long winded pomposity only works in the culture of Washington, and he's simply been there too long.

This poll he cites was what was called an outlier. It's been deconstructed as having terrible sampling procedures (twice as many dems as R's, and other such things). All the other polls show much greater suppport for her, one that is growing. Will is so stuck in his little cocoon, he reports the fuzz as reality for the whole world.

Now excuse me, I have to go set up my picture of Sarah between the two candles on my altar.......

Of course not. Congratulations, you just knocked down another strawman.

What?

I do knock down strawman fallacies and I don't set them up (which is probably what you meant to accuse me of).

Back to point, Obama is a lying, America hating, self-centered, freedom grabbing, abortion loving, Constitution shredding, commie while Sarah is not. That is why some people like Sarah, I'm not sure why some people like Obama, which is why Obama and Sarah are different. Your comparison of the two is false.

Reagan was no "populist." Populism gave us the income tax, usury laws, and other noxious statism. Populism is to brain dead hicks what socialism is to brain dead urbanites/suburbanites.

The historical verdict on populism is that the morons with confused politics (IE Populists) lose outside of local contests. Jackson was an exception, as his election was the first in which non-land holding white males could vote (and they voted for one of the largest landholders in Tennessee!).

The kind of populism you mentioned above is not unlike socialism, IMO. They’re both of the Left.
