The genius accepted by Mensa aged just 3 after IQ of 140 equals Bill Clinton
Daily Mail ^ | 2/17/10 | Liz Hull

Posted on 02/17/2010 8:52:38 PM PST by Nachum

Most three-year-olds are fascinated by cars and trucks.

But few can read and remember their number plates like William Potter does.

He can also name most towns and cities in the British Isles - and has just become one of the youngest people ever accepted as a member of Mensa.

With an IQ of 140, his intelligence is said to be on a par with that of Bill Clinton and, apparently, Napoleon Bonaparte.

Interesting how Bonaparte is looked at these days, he was on a par with Hitler in his time, only worse. I do like one of his quotes, which basically goes, When people really screw up it is not malice, mostly they are just stupid.

He can already tell the time, understands dates, owns a calculator and has even picked up some Spanish and Chinese from watching foreign children's TV shows.

Gee, if the kids so smart, why does he need a calculator?

This is stupid. Many people have an IQ of 140. Most tests that measure IQ put 140 at the first level of genius. Well, welcome a genius to FR because mine is 141 and has been for years(since freshman year of HS). I remember the MSM saying Clinton had a 160 IQ. I guess they decided to down grade it now that Bozo the WH clown is in office.

While the IQ means _something_, I’m not exactly sure what, but it does tend to correlate with success in life. On the other hand, there are those with relatively high IQ that are not as successful as most “normals”.. me, for example, to be honest.

Other than the puff pieces from the usual media flacks, there is no reason to believe that Clinton’s IQ is 140. Someone that intelligent would be able to write better than he can. The Rhodes Scholarship, BTW, is not awarded on the basis of exceptional academic talent or achievement, as most people seem to think.

But being clinically stupid (like most politicians) the norm has been achieved.

I for one think Attila the Hun, Ivan the Terrible, and Alexander the Great were pretty friggin' cruel-er-cool. Of course, no one is alive who remember what nasty individuals they were. With WWII, you have oodles of photographs of mounds of dead jews. With much older wars, you have lots of contrived paintings of great victories perhaps with an occasional, less inspiring painting like this one:

But in general, going back over a couple generations, we don't get worked up about people who died unnaturally or caused other people's deaths ...unless it's part of some religious belief or helps to support some political agenda. And that's a fairly rational approach to the issue really.

Per Wikipedia: Barack Obama has not released transcripts for his grades from Occidental College, Columbia University and Harvard Law. He has also not released his SAT and LSAT scores. No explanation has been offered for not releasing them.

First of all, IQ is not a static quality. It is, by definition, your intelligence quotient. Quotient means it is determined by division (specifically, for many IQ tests, the number of questions you can answer correctly divided by the number of questions the average person your age answers correctly. Note the "your age" portion of that. This means that early-developing children often have a high IQ... until the other kids catch up to them developmentally. So only the very uninformed would look at a three year-old's IQ score and assume it means anything about that child's future intelligence.

Second of all, anyone who brags about IQ scores above 135 doesn't know what they are talking about. Standard IQ tests don't measure with any accuracy over about 130-135 (at that point the test is not statistically valid). In any case, IQ scores cannot be compared numerically in the first place. They are compared based on standard deviations from the mean. At 100, fifteen points is about one standard deviation. So you could say that, in general, we could expect a person with an IQ 120 to be "smarter" (depending on your definition) than a person with a 100 (as they are separated by a standard deviation). As the test exceeds 130-135, the standard deviation becomes statistically undefinable enough that we can't actually say anything about a score of 148 compared to a 175... the tests just don't measure those scores accurately enough.

So, quite frankly, anyone who knows what they are talking about would refer to their IQ scores as normal/one or two standard deviations above the mean/beyond two standard deviations from the mean/ etc. Quotations of extravagant numbers are worthless (and a bit sad, really)...

I would venture to guess that at least 1/4 of freepers have an IQ of at least 135, and 140 is definitely not ‘significantly’ high.

135 is the lower cut-off for military flight training.

I don't know about mensa but I nominate my in-law parents for the title of genius.
Their 6 grown kids still visit them every week (including several adult grandchildren and sons-in-law), talk to them by phone most days of the week, all of them get together for dinner at the homeplace many times a year.
Parents that can raise a family that still does all that takes something special. In my book, that's genius that makes a difference in lives.

Well I was born in August and I have scored around 140 on a few IQ tests, but I often think that if I was any dumber I wouldn’t be able to stay alive. Common sense trumps intelligence and fortunately I have some of that.

I don’t trust the leadership of really smart people because I think they over-reach a lot. Really dumb people are worse, but it is usually obvious that they are dumb so nobody pays attention to them.

I have made some major screw-ups because I outsmarted myself and decided that I have a really hotshot idea. If I had been a little dumber, I would have saved myself some trouble.

Come to think of it, this is starting to seem like a dumb post.
