Pictures behind Obama's Desk
vanity

Posted on 02/18/2010 12:09:46 PM PST by airedale

I saw a picture of the photos behind President Obama's desk in the Oval Office. I saw pictures of his kids and wife but I didn't see pictures of his mother, or grandmother and grandfather. The pictures were small so it was hard to tell what was in the older pictures framed on the library table. Are there pictures of his mother, grandmother and grandfather on his mothers side?

Is that a Remington on the right chest? Wasn’t that Reagan’s favorite, too?

I recognize what looks like a Childe Hassam painting on the left. Does anyone recognize the painting on the right, over the sculpture?

Frankly, I can't recall ever seeing anyone with pictures of their grandmother and / or grandfather in their office.

Obama is the type of person who would just leave the sample picture in the frame and pretend he knows them.

I have pictures of my husband and children on my desk, but no pictures of my deceased parents or grandparents. I am not sure it is relevant to anything.

I thought I remembered it. Wasn’t there some sort of flap over it — or maybe it was just a slow news day and they covered his love of the bronze statues. I wonder what this President’s fascination is with it. It doesn’t “fit” his urbane image so much. Ah, well. Just goes to show, art can transcend all differences.

..she must be cleaning up after Biden’s play-do sessions, there’s no other reason, since Odumbo finds the oval office too restricting and the responsibility of being President too overwhelming....(in all honesty,I think he can’t handle the honor bestow upon him,he finds himself not worthy)

Mark this as the only time I’ll ever make a comment in defense of BHO

There's also almost nothing on his desk. No files, no papers or documents, no reports, nothing.

Kinda like his brain, I suppose.

no images of white folk except for those that work for him. Given that the family that took care of him was white, I find it strange. He must really hate whitey.

If their grandparents raised them and bent every effort to get them into a posh private high school which eventually set them off on an Ivy League-primed career, they might have pictures of them in their office, in gratitude, if nothing else.

Regarding the pics behind him on the credenza, they are almost all extremely recent. The guy has no past. The tchotchkes prove it.

That particular photo of the Statue of Liberty is the closest thing to having a picture of it being dismantled.

Lastly, he's removed the "desk set" to give his office a clean, modern look. In short, the Oval Office now has as much charm and personal appeal as a display in either Staples or Office Depot.

“That particular photo of the Statue of Liberty is the closest thing to having a picture of it being dismantled.”

That picture was done by Norman Rockwell for a cover of The Saturday Evening Post in July of 1946. It’s been in the Oval Office since 1994.

“This original oil on canvas work was once owned by noted film director Steven Spielberg, a long-time fan and collector of Norman Rockwell’s work. Mr. Spielberg, who serves on the board of Norman Rockwell Museum, eventually donated the painting to the official White House Collection in 1994. Since that time, Presidents Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, and Barack Obama have each had it on display in the Oval Office (an interesting note is the placement of fellow illustrator Frederic Remington’s sculpture Bronco Buster below the painting). An additional series of Rockwell works—appropriately titled So You Want to See The President (Saturday Evening Post story illustration, November 13, 1943)—are also on loan to the White House, and on view in the building’s West Wing.”
