Bite the Hand That Feeds You: Essays and Provocations (Joseph Stack a fan?)- Rush Bump!
Vanity + Amazon ^

There is an interesting quote at the end of Joseph Stack's suicide note: The capitalist creed: From each according to his gullibility, to each according to his greed.. This quote is from a book by Henry Fairlie titled Bite the Hand That Feeds You: Essays and Provocations

The Amazon.com description of this book is:

A native British wit expresses an adopted American ebullience in this sparkling collection of political journalism and commentary. Fairlie (1924–1990) migrated from London to the U.S. in the 1960s, where his writings in the Washington Post, the New Republic and elsewhere both celebrated and pilloried the American scene. The unstuffy Brit applauds America's informality, its gadgetry, its abundance and vastness, and its personification in a cowboy-poet named Hooter he meets in a Mankato, Minn., bar, but he's appalled by its politics. An avowed Tory in Britain, he discovers conservatism's Reaganite version to be narrow-minded and selfish and mean-spirited; he duly eulogizes FDR, attacks George F. Will and denounces government bashing as the sneer of patronizing and vaulting privilege at the needs of ordinary people that can be served only by government. Whether stomping on the dangerous insects in the Washington media corps or defending his beloved Scotch whiskey against the Perrier water fad that prompted the abandonment of... a wholesome and convivial liquor for a suspect Gallic product, Fairlie's elegantly pugilistic prose still feels fresh—and surprisingly relevant to today's politics.

Other digging into Fairlie shows he started out as a Tory but became an FDR fan leftist with shades of Lyndon Larouche thrown in. Joseph Stack has a unique

The fruits of “keeping” Austin anarcho-leftist weird.

He lived in ultra-conservative Williamson county. Now if he was from Hyde Park/West Campus that might have some merit.

I’ve certainly run across it a few times over the years. It’s not that obscure. On the other hand, I’ve never heard of Fairlie before.

The guy could be from the Peoples Republic of Maine.

Can't tell you how many Mainers I've met who have 6 dots to connect. They connect the first three, skip right over 4 and 5 and go directly to 6.

They then pronounce some "profound" political insight, rail against "them" and go directly to the welfare office to collect their reparations.

And then Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe get re-elected.

People will read what they want to into this guy’s last screed. Does he mention a Communist rule? He must be a Communist! Does he hate taxes? He must be a Paulite! Does he mention the Catholic Church? He must be an anti-PapistI Does he mention Big Capital? He must be a Libertarian!

One thing is certain: he hated the IRS.

All the rest - trying to pigeonhole him into various categories - is contradicted by his statement. He was anti-everything, aggrieved and insanely furious. He killed himself and someone else. He left a family behind - though apparently he was mad at them as well.

The people here who think he’s a Communist will not be swayed by any argument or close reading of his own writing. He probably would have been happy to take a poke in the nose at them on that point and found lots to agree with them on other opinions.

His ideas were a mishmash of stuff he picked up from a variety of places, and which he subscribed to because they matched his pre-conceived grievances. That’s very common.

"but it’s NOT terrorism despite him burning is house down and flyng low..."

Darn, I was just planning on a quick lurk tonight due to shortness of time, but that has to be answered. I watched some of the live coverage on Fox last night and the refefinition of terrorism made me hopping mad.

I have been studying terrorism, foreign and domestic, for 30 years. The Austin planer was not a terrorist. He did not belong to an organization, there was no organization - in fact, he showed the classic disorganized thought patterns of a serial killer - and there was no PLAN to use fear to force the public and the government to institute the changes you demand.

The act was not terrorism, it was a lone psychotic, which typically attack the Fed during tax time. If we insist on DEFINING it as an act of terrorism, we then must define the NIU shooter as a terrorist rather then a nut with a similar behavioral pattern.

I understand your concern, but hope you will understand why we have to be very careful of our definitions. If we blur the definition, then everything is an act of terrorism, thus legally turning an act of terrorism into...nothing, a misdemeanor.

The el Al shooter in LA was a terrorist, the kid who professed to admire bin Laden and stole a plane and rammed it into a building was committing an act of terror, but this guy? The air is cleaner without him breathing it. Thank God he didn't do more damage

We now return to our regularly scheduled thread.

Sorry, that's some weak spin. Not your fault, of course.

But speaking of pilots, my coin today to aggravate Libtards was a new MSNBC prime-time talker, "Shitstack & Bishop" -- crazy Communist pilot with wacky Leftist professor as his sidekick.

He was an anti-capitalist Obamacare-loving nutjob BY HIS OWN WORDS!

Considering what the nut wrote, the only difference between this wacko and Keith Olbermann is that apparently Olbermann has never been audited.

Shitstack is McVeigh-minus-Turner Diaries. He was a domestic terrorist who spent most of his life as a castrated anarchist. He coldly calculated 200 in collateral. Thank God he was off by 199. And prayers to the 1 who passed.

It's noteworthy that the only Yellow Dog to come out with the right answer was -- another Texan.

"This was a cowardly act of domestic terrorism." - Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Austin, Texas.

Bo used to have a radio program of his own on WABC out of New York. How I love the guy. His partner was left of center but they were so great together.

Wish he was back on the air.

You mean the “Lamestream Media,” i.e., “The State Run Media.”

You still watch/read them?
