I’m guessing Coke and Pepsi didn’t sweeten the Dems’ campaign donations enough.

Another case study of why CA is in the toilet.

1: Whole Nanny State aspect of the tax
2: The lie that it will be paid by bottlers
3: Not one cent of any revenue raised will be used to at least help get CA out of its fiscal hole but instead another used for a specific purpose whether the schools really need an obesity or not.

And you know what, if their fines are more than their annual salary, we’ll just start tapping into their congressional pension plans.

This cause ‘du jour’ is growing only too familiar. The government steps in and says we are doing this to help you, and what really happens is the they stomp on our toes and tell us that the pain beneficial..

No, just what Kalifornia wants: more taxes. Those sonofbitches keep re-electing them. (Apologies to Jim)

Gov’ts have to add and increase consumption taxes. They’ve over-milked the income taxes.

We should replace everyone in the capitol with meth-addicts. The behavior would be the same and they would be a lot cheaper to appease.

“Gov’ts have to add and increase consumption taxes. They’ve over-milked the income taxes.”

No, they WANT to. They do not have to.

“If they really want to raise money how about charge politicians $5 for every lie. That would fill the coffers in no time.”

Would also reduce the amount of greenhouse gasses warming the atmosphere....

Candy will be next.

They will soon use the lessons learned from taxing alcohol and tobacco. Huge tax revenues, and not a dime of the taxes used to reduce the existing tax burden on citizens.

The new revenues just disappear down the government rat hole.

California Communists Party (formally the Democratic Party) at it again. The manufacture will just pass the cost on to us so that is another reason why California is the garbage dump of America. And what is so irritating is the dumb RAT voters that keep these insane nitwits in power.

This is ridiculous! My friends and I drank lots of soda pop, maybe 2 a day by junior high, and not one of us was fat! Some of us were too skinny! And most of us were allowed pop at home, not excessively, and were served nutritious meals, and our moms (or we) packed nutritious lunches. We ate some junk and high-calorie, high-carb food, too, some of the food from the school cafeteria. And I loved some of it!

The problem is lifestyle, not sugar in pop. We walked and got a lot of exercise. What are these obese kids doing? Out of a class of 30, there may have been one overweight kid on the average all through high school; the rest were normal or skinny. I won't deny there were some fat kids then.

It wasn't until I got to college (and less exercise) that dieting because a fad and kids started watching more what they ate. Even so, I can't recall one fat one at that university off the top of my head; maybe one roommate was slightly overweight.

The only parent I remember being seriously overweight was my mom, nor were any of my teachers overweight, maybe the jr high history teacher.

This is what will happen when government gets control of our health care. They’ll tax everything they deem unhealthy “for the children” while progressives beg for more.

Some may disagree and I know correlation is not causation but before HFCS was added to soda and everything else they used regular sugar and obesity was not such a problem. If anything I hope that the demonization of corn syrup forces soda makers to go back to cane sugar, it always tasted better to me anyway.

More likely to feed obese California budgets. Just like the money from the tobacco settlements, not one dime went to stop smoking. Not one dime of this proposed tax will got to exercise programs or school systems.

Why stop at a penny?

They won't stop at a penny, but you knew that. Government knows that the frog won't jump out of the water if you heat it slowly. They did the same with tobacco taxes...raise it by small enough increments so that the users weren't shocked into quitting.
