LOS ANGELES — Police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of flying a small stolen plane that made an unauthorized landing at Los Angeles International Airport.
Police spokesman Cleon Joseph says Skye Turner was arrested Friday afternoon, hours after he landed the Cirrus SR22 and was detained for questioning. He was booked on $20,000 bail.
An employee at a flight school based in Montgomery Field in San Diego County says the plane was reported missing Thursday night. He says the plane, which belonged to a Georgia-based client of the school, was parked behind a fence on airport property.

Perhaps this is an immigration issue more than an aviation issue? It stinks that there a unbalanced Americans who kill as many as they can when they decide to die. But what really worries me is the weaponization of these small planes by those who want to hurt all Americans.

I agree. We do need to take SOME precautions. By your definition, anarchy is true freedom. I tend to disagree. I think that society functions better with rules and regulations, as long as they don’t infringe on other peoples personal freedoms. It is our freedom that gives us the right to choose between right and wrong, but that doesn’t mean we can’t make it difficult if someone chooses to do something that can endanger others.
Why? Do we need to lock down the country like the Soviet Union? Maybe require passes to travel outside of our neighborhoods, or maybe make everyone wear a tracking device and set curfews just so that you might feeeeel safer?

Your ignorance is astounding. Nuclear facilities are hardened against large jets. A small Cessna wouldn’t even scratch the paint.
The police are looking for just that capability. They want to be able to track the whereabouts of peoples' cell phones, which makes the cell phone a de facto tracking device.

O.K., maybe I was a little severe. Sorry. But true freedonm is doing anything you want when you want it. That would be disasterous (kind of like the admin. exercising their freedom to completely ignore the constitution). There is a huge gray area between freedom and regulation. I dont pretend to have the answers. These issues confuse me more than inform me. I do enjoy the discussion though. :)

It takes a real liberal to think we need to lock down the country for the sake of “security”. It is a childish point of view for the need to feel safe and secure and be tucked into bed at night by daddy government. Heavy handed governments create their own dangers far greater than the dangers you think the government is preventing.

One solution - a simple one - would be to require airplane owners affix a lock on the fuel mixture control. The lock is inexpensive and does the job since the plane is not flyable with it in place. My husband always attaches such a device (a hardened lock removed only with a key) before leaving his plane unattended.
Do aircraft with fuel-injected (non-carbureted) engines have mixture controls?

It seems to me that You are taking the liberal approach of name calling instead of finding a solution. It is also a very liberal characteristic to demonize those who you disagree with.
