LOS ANGELES — Police have arrested a 23-year-old man on suspicion of flying a small stolen plane that made an unauthorized landing at Los Angeles International Airport.

Police spokesman Cleon Joseph says Skye Turner was arrested Friday afternoon, hours after he landed the Cirrus SR22 and was detained for questioning. He was booked on $20,000 bail.

An employee at a flight school based in Montgomery Field in San Diego County says the plane was reported missing Thursday night. He says the plane, which belonged to a Georgia-based client of the school, was parked behind a fence on airport property.

Does anyone else here think that maybe Napolitano should work on a better way of keeping track of small planes? I’m guessing that the terrorists have been watching the news too.

My thoughts, precisely. Who knows what kind of security the tiny airports actually have, IF any???

I think Napolitano should focus on radical Muslims.

Okay, who in their right mind would ever neame their boy Cleon? Your just asking to get his a$$ beat.

And SKYE??? Might as well dress him in a tutu right from the get go, and remove all doubt from anybody.

No. All you will do is kill the general aviation industry. To what end? Stories like this one are anecdotal. Calling for a knee-jerk reaction is a liberal trait.

Over.

“I think Napolitano should focus on radical Muslims.”

First you have to convince her that they are more dangerous than us.

You seem to know about this stuff. What do you have to do to get in a plane and fly it now? Is all you need a license? If that is the case, perhaps they need to have tighter regulation of the licenses? Maybe? (I’m just trying to get more information to make an informed decision)

What do you have to do to get in a plane and fly it now?

You need the same things you would need for a driver's license with the addition of a medical clearance. That's enough.

A major problem is that IF terrorists really wish to use small aircraft as Kamikaze attack pilots against buildings, it is all too possible for them to buy rural property and use barns as hangers for their craft.

That said, however, it seems that one wouldn't need to do that, there are tens of thousands of tiny airports in the USA, and anyone who was determined, and knew how to fly probably could steal a plane from almost any of them.

There has to be a non invasive way to regulate small planes. I just get a sick feeling that some people will get very bad ideas after seeing the amount of damage inflicted. I don’t know what the right answer is (don’t know enough about the aviation industry), but there has to be a better way...

Anyone happen to know how security of the AIRPLANES located in tiny airports happens to be handled in Israel?

I've never heard of any Arab stealing a small plane from a small airport and inflicting terror and/or damage with the plane.

In this day & age, it shouldn't be all that complex to make a plan to safely secure the airplanes.

I went to Egypt about 15 years ago. When we got off the plane there was a row of 20 soldiers with machine guns to greet us, and many more stationed all over. Needless to say, there were no incidents at that airport. I would imagine Israel is same. I don’t know about small airplanes, but I would imagine it is pretty tough.

Nah, I meant the tiny little landing strip airports where people store their SMALL private planes.

Remember all the fear about the small crop dusters, after 911, when they learned that Mohamed Atta was interested in using a crop dusting plane for a bioattack?

Local ABC-TV news now saying that he was despondent and stole the plane with the possibility of flying it into the ocean.
