Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour (R) is trying to rally state opposition to U.S. EPA's forthcoming regulation of greenhouse gases.
A former utility lobbyist and former chairman of the Republican National Committee, Barbour is asking members of the National Governors Association's natural resource committee to urge Congress to block the rules.
This week, Barbour circulated among the governors a draft letter (pdf) to Congress encouraging lawmakers to pass a resolution to stop EPA from enacting "costly greenhouse gas regulations" under the Clean Air Act.
"This is something that Governor Barbour feels like is important," Barbour spokesman Dan Turner said. "He wanted to discuss it with his colleagues and hoped that they would see it as being important as well and would weigh in on it."
Turner added that the letter is only a draft, "just something to throw out there on the table."
Barbour is planning to discuss the letter with his colleagues this weekend as the National Governors Association holds its annual winter meeting in Washington, D.C. "The point is to spark the discussion," Turner said, "and if the NGA deems it worthy, then they may very well want to do something on it."

Cato Institute: "Forcing Congress to vote on each and every administrative regulation that establishes a rule of private conduct would prove the most revolutionary change in government since the Civil War not because the idea is particularly radical, but because we are today a nation governed, not by elected officials, but by unelected bureaucrats."

So NO, I do “NOT” trust his judgment on anything.
Boss Hogg and his ties to "Big Power".
Kudos to anyone who works to reign in the environmental stalinists.
Ahhh.. today’s first winner.. So who do you support? Sarah Palin, who as governor orchestrated the rewriting of legal contracts as well as leveling left-wing “windfall profits tax” on those who she didn’t like.
I find it amazing that the Palin Bots will ninnypick every candidate for the one position they disagree with them on, but when it comes to the gargantuan number of flaws their own candidate at, they dismiss.
Haley Barbour has been an outstanding governor for the state of Mississippi and would make a fantastic President. Unlike The Quitter so many around here want to annoint Queen.
The Utah legislature passed a similar piece of legislation not too long ago.
And this makes him evil, how?
Obama might be promising nuke plants in our future, but his previous policy statements and positions suggest otherwise.
"Boss Hogg" as you so elequently refer to him wants to see that the EPA and their goons in the environmentalist movement don't stand in the way of renewed interest in long term energy production occurs in this country.
The EPA is responsible for this nation being dependent on foreign sources of energy.
My point is that the MSM is going to lampoon any Republican contender.
Not saying that you are one of them, but people on this thread have no problem calling Palin a quitter when the Dems were handcuffing her ability to govern and driving her farther and farther into debt, but get a mad on when their favorite candidate is caricatured in a similar manner.
Like when you referred to him as "Boss Hogg"?
... and get rid that aid named Rosco.
I believe he was speaking aloud what he supposed was in the NYSlimes writer's head. (And I agree with that supposition...)
Maybe you should have a framed copy of Reagan’s 11th Commandment hanging on your wall next to the computer workstation.
I’m with the Governor. I’m against the expansion of government powers over the individual and the individual states that make up this great nation.
Just to be clear, I’m not agreeing that Barbour IS “Boss Hogg”, only that the NYSlimes writer has set up a template painting Barbour AS “Boss Hogg”.
And I think the original FReeper you replied to (too lazy to look back) is probably roughly in the same boat.
Gotta say, that regardless of how good a governor Barbour has been we in Alabama still say "Thank God for Mississippi" :)
So, did you beat up any women last night?
Joke of a thread PING!
I have no problem with Barbour’s executive skills or judgement. In fact, the last time the GOP was relevant and successful, Barbour was Chairman of the GOP.
By 2012, the nation may be DEMANDING a president who understands the energy issue like Barbour or Palin!!!!
Since when is the EPA, a governmental agency who works for the people of the United Sates dictating policy. When zero is neutered in November we need to smack down the EPA!
Ignore the EPA fascists and fire them. Unelected bureaucrats can no more write law than obuma can give his war-making power to Bill Ayers. Only congress may write law. Unaccountable bureaucrats writing law is one of the primary traits of a dictatorship.
There are 2 GOP candidates for 2012...Palin and Stop Palin. It's gonna be interesting for the next couple of years (and crazy). :)
Oh another SARAH HATER? Actually, I admire Sarah but do not support her to run for president in 2012.
As for who I do choose is NONE Of your business. My statement stands and the facts are in writing with Barbour’s signature on them. If Barbour cannot take a stand and make certain legislation does not strip the rights of Individual before signing a piece of garbage into legislation he does not get my support. Furthermore, there is NO way I would support any politicians who signs a law to make someone feel good while stripping the Constitutional Rights of another.
I agreed 100% with Haley Barbour’s emminent domain decision.
You had 1 a-hole using federal farm subsidies keeping 1000s of people from having high paying jobs.
Barbour did the proper thing.
Wow.. so you wouldn’t of supported Abraham Lincoln I take it?
Why are you taking this off point? As for Lincoln, what he did was AFTER he was elected as PRESIDENT. Barbour is doing this as GOVERNOR.
