(Newser) It's time to get past the incessant partisan potshots being taken at President Obama and forge some progress, Colin Powell told Face the Nation today.
"I dont think the country will be well served if the next three years are attempts to bring him down and destroy him as a political figure," said the Republican, who added that "Americans will want to see some progress" and said he doesn't regret voting for Obama in 2008.
Powell also dismissed Dick Cheney's suggestions that the country was less safe under Obama as bunk: "To suggest that somehow weve become much less safe because of the administration isnt born out by the facts.

No General. It is time for you to quietly fade away.
I get it. Powell wants to be the new Secretary of Defense, or maybe repeat as Secretary of State.
It’s hard to do because as soon as you “lay off” him, he does something else incredible and you’re back to square one.
0bama is trying to bring down and destroy the people. Why shouldn’t the people bring down and destroy 0bama?
At first glance, I thought he said “layoff”. I’m all for that....
When I first read the title; I thought Powell meant it was time to get rid of Obama.
LOL I thought the man had finally come to his senses.
AMEN to that!
Sure...just lay down and take it. Thanks for the advice, Colin Blow.
Not only will we not “lay off of Obama,” we’ll pile on Powell!
Powell is a liar as the facts show.
The USA was attacked on its mainland
several times last year, with the White House, DNC
and DOJ, and Powell, quite eager to help the terrorists.
Obama’s agenda is not progress Colin, unless you believe we need to destroy this country, then yes, its progress.
Isn’t Powell irrelevant???? Please say yes.
Or what? Powell endorsed Obama in 2008, a moment in Vichy Republican infamy no one should forget, now he dispenses advice?
Why are all of these VichyRepublicans now dispensing advice?
So Powell, you did not think to point this out during eight years of Bush bashing?
Hey General, I never heard you telling anyone to lay off of President Bush. Obama is such a whiney baby, what will he do when the big one happens? Its only a matter of time when he is tested and they are out there waiting, just biding their time.
Anyone who voted for Obama and doesn't regret it is not a conservative and is, in fact, and IDIOT!
Yeah, he should be laid off. He can join the ranks of MILLIONS of unemployed that his policies have created.
“said the Republican....”
