Well, as a former Boy Scout...

Gun, knife, recorder, first aid kit, and flashlight.

You mean you don’t?

Nearly everyone I shoot with has a Glock. I’ve shot them and they are fine guns. There is no doubt that Glock was an innovator in handgun materials, function, and design. Many Glock features have been copied or have inspired other modern handgun manufacturers. I don’t hate the guns and I’ll never make fun of anyone who chooses to own one.

I won’t buy one because I think they’re plain ugly; there are plenty of other handguns that work just as well and are pleasing to look at. But, that’s just my opinion. That’s the reason I have a Sig Mosquito .22 and a Walther P22 .22 instead of a Browning Buckmark or Ruger. For plinking fun, I want a supermodel, not a housewife!

I’ve only met one disappointed Glock owner ever, and his problem was fixed by a good cleaning.

Happy shooting!

Well, this is why we have the 2nd amendment. Contrary to popular belief, there is absolutely NO laws regarding LEO response...in other words, they don’t have to, or in a timely fashion....if they don’t want to. ((((i’m not against LEO’s, in fact i’m testing right now...:)))))..Protect yourself...ALWAYS...cause I won’t always be there....

I’m going into law enforcement....just to let you know, theres no laws regarding response times. We don’t have to even show up if you call... can’t be everywhere at once. So when I see the 100th comment regarding this subject....damn, did’t rely on LEO’s before and I still won’t now that i’m going into that field. I’ts asinine to think so. YOU’LL be there so citizens need to invest in their own defense. Situations like Brittany Zimmerman will never happen. Invest in the 2nd amendment. Join the NRA. Buy a gun.Buy a knife. Invest in training. Protect yourself.

How right you are.

I was born in NJ, to good decent Reagan democrat Catholic parents (who since have become Glenn Beck watchers). I readily absorbed the fear and loathing of guns, handguns especially, that exudes from NYC and blankets itself over liberal-topia. I associated their possession only with bad guys, cops or uncouth country bumpkins (can you say ignorant, reality-deprived, de-facto segregation-lovin’ hypocrites? Well, if you grew up in Morris County, NJ, you bet you can.)

Anyway, this is the story of how that all changed.

See my tagline? I’m not just a bumper-sticker copy-catter, but someone who was alone in my house one night with my two preschool-age children upstairs asleep (hubby was working night-shift), now living in southwest VA.

I was sitting at my computer downstairs working when I heard the outside screen door on my back porch swing and scrape and a loud thump.

In an time-altered state, I shut off the lights, grabbed the longest, sharpest kitchen blade I could, grabbed the phone and found a defensive position (there was no gun in the house, ‘natch.)

I call 911 (it’s about 11:00 Saturday night)

I tell the operator IN A LOUD VOICE that someone is trying to break in my back porch, please come quickly.

She, however, tells me “tonight is really busy, we’ll get someone there as soon as possible.” (Note I live in a city of 75K, metro 150-200K)

I hear another footstep on the porch, some kind of muffled noise and what I think is a hasty retreat. Then the door again.

I call 911 again.

This time more quietly I say “You don’t understand... SOMEONE IS TRYING TO BREAK INTO MY HOUSE and I AM ALONE WITH 2 SMALL CHILDREN...”

“Ma’am, officers are responding to several calls right now, can you actually see anything?”

At this point, I said something unprintable and volunteered her to come check it out for me. Realizing I was on my own, I VERY loudly added, “Thank God you have a car the next block over, yes he’s in the back.”

The perp must have heard this, because I heard the sounds of door slam and retreat post haste.

Then I called my Dad, who lived a bit away and asked him to come over, because I was afraid the guy might come back at some point.

Needless to say... at 2am, the police STILL had not come or even checked on me. I finally called them back (after my Dad was there) and told them not to bother because I no longer required their services. They didn’t seem to care either way. Nice.

That day, the last of my New Jersey-(in)bred fear and hostility towards guns died and was buried.

I finally *got* it. Thank God, I didn’t actually get it the hard way.

That’s what Huey P Newton, minister of defense, black panthers used to say too - makes everyone respect us.

I still remember when 30 of them showed up at the capital, (I think Reagan was governor of California). The police arrested all of them, and they were shouting and screaming they had a right to carry.

Next thing you know, we had some more gun laws.

Thank God nothing happened to you.

Many people are naieve about the police being there to help. Has anyone looked at the ratio of cops to people lately in large urban areas? Not a good ratio, and it is getting worse by the day.

I have a saying: The veneer of civilization is thin.

And I believe it is growing thinner by the day.

Thanks for the well wishes. I agree I was naive, in fact, I’d go for willfully ignorant or plain old stupid. I actually think I was under the impression that I’d have a quicker police response, living in a larger area.

What I really don’t get is why feminists aren’t more PRO-gun. Talk about the great equalizer! If you want to be able to hold your own against a male attacker, screw those pansy self-defense classes, pack something and know how to use it.

Just imagine the amount of abuse that could be curtailed during the Super Bowl alone.</s>
