Medina loses ground in latest poll on Texas governor race

AUSTIN – Insurgent candidate Debra Medina has lost some ground in the Republican governor's race after a controversial radio interview about the 9/11 terrorist attacks, according to a new poll that also shows that Gov. Rick Perry would easily prevail in a potential runoff against his leading challenger, U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.

Perry led Hutchison 40 percent to 31 percent, while Medina had 20 percent, according to the survey of likely voters in next Tuesday's Republican primary.

The survey also showed former Houston Mayor Bill White with 59 percent over his six rivals in the Democratic governor's race, well above the majority threshold he needs to avoid a runoff.

Houston hair care magnate Farouk Shami, White's most visible Democratic rival, had 12 percent.

The poll, conducted Friday through Sunday by Public Policy Polling of Raleigh, N.C., was the first to gauge the impact of Medina's remarks in a Feb. 11 radio interview with conservative commentator Glenn Beck.

Under questioning by Beck, the conservative GOP activist did not immediately disavow a theory that the U.S. government was involved in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Medina quickly sought to clarify her remarks and said she was set up by opponents.

But the latest survey showed that Medina has dropped 4 points since a poll two weeks earlier and may have been irreparably hurt by the remarks, said pollster Tom Jensen. "Our polling suggests that the Glenn Beck interview is really hurting her," Jensen said in a telephone interview.

Medina, who espouses a message of limited government and state sovereignty, bounced out of obscurity with successful performances in two debates and at one point appeared to be closing in on Hutchison for second-place behind Perry.

She should demand to see Barky’s birth certificate. That’ll help her numbers.

I was polled on this Sat night. Amongst the questions about who I would vote for between Hutchison and Perry, was the question...do you think Medina actually thinks the Bush Administration was behind the 9/11 attacks...

I hope and pray the Lone Star state is not ready for a moon-god worhipping Mohammedan in the same office once held by Sam Houton.

She’ll probably blame the Bush administration.

She actually thinks the Beck interview was set up by the Perry campaign.

I would answer YES, her interview on Glenn Beck is all the proof you need. Unless you are a kool-aid Medina worshiper.

Someone posted on another thread that Medina is also a candidate for the US Senate in Texas? If that is true it proves that Ms. Medina is nothing more than a media whore who wants her Cindy Sheehan moment.

Maybe Ms. Medina can go camp out in front of Crawford, Texas with the other loons and blame Bush for 9/11 and everything else wrong on planet Earth.

Yet some of her looney supporters are still supporting this truther here on this website. Truely embarassing.

FWIW, In my part of TX, everyone I know voted for Perry already in early voting. Even though KBH has been here twice stumping, I don’t think she has much support, except with UT alums.

Weirdly enough, I realized that if Osama bin Laden had attended UT, there are people here who would vote for him soley on that credential.

Her facebook page was hilarious today. Apparently truther ringleader Alex Jones turned on her today for agreeing with Mark Davis in a radio interview that truthers are despicable so now they’re against her too.

I would imagine 20% is the max she might get unless there’s a lot of widespread voting by Dems for her because they figure they can beat her in November.

So Medina is like John Kerry.

"I was a truther before I voted against it, so therefore I'm not a truther."
