Thanks for the ping. I’m glad we don’t live near there anymore (not like this couldn’t happen anywhere, mind you...). Of course now the liberal zealots will use this as yet another excuse for why guns should be banned altogether — I remember the rallies after Columbine and it was heart-wrenching to see some of the parents who sought vengeance on the laws in a vain attempt to protect the kids in the schools there after Columbine. It’s heart-breaking really — all their efforts won’t prevent someone bent on hurting another from achieving their goals.

Seems like each day I think of more. Your niece is having a barn day with her daddy tomorrow so she went to bed happily. How a child looks forward to mucking stalls I don’t know. I think the farrier is going to be there & Sassy loves that. So I get a whole day to rest. She has lunch made & treats gathered. She was singing as she was washing up, What is it about Girls & Their Horses. Guess I better get her singing lessons asap. lol

I live about 3 blocks from Deer Creek Middle School. I’ve lived here for 32 years.

It was an uncomfortable deja vu to hear this news today, not only because of nearby Columbine, but at this very same school 1n 1982 one student shot another dead. At that time, my daughter was going to the school and was friends with both boys. It was a traumatic experience that left aftershocks within my family for years.

This corner of JeffCo has become infamous.

That’s interesting. That article gave links to the shooter’s long arrest record and an article about him being a participant in a NASA-funded medical study. From ‘96 to 2008, he was arrested 14 times for crimes including assault and domestic violence.

There have been two stories from his dad, one that he was living with him in Weld County, working as a ranch hand. The other is that he hadn’t had a job for 5 years, lived in Littleton and couldn’t pay his bills.
