The Real Sarah Palin
humanevents.com ^ | February 24, 2010 | Skip Coryell

"I’m a die-hard conservative, and when I think of Sarah Palin, I shiver with both excitement and dread. You see, I read Sarah’s book Going Rogue and was very impressed. Here was a real person, a real American, with real God-fearing American values and she was in politics to boot. It excites me because I want to believe she is the real thing. It terrifies me because few people ever go to DC without being corrupted. And America just can’t afford to have another hero go bad.

I think about Sarah Palin and I wonder. Who is she? Who is the real Sarah Palin? Is she the airheaded ditz depicted by Tina Fey and the rest of the mainstream media, or is she real? I want to think the latter. I want to think she’s the strong mother who holds Trig in her arms and kisses his forehead. I want to think she reads bedtime stories to her daughter, Willow. I like to think she’s still madly in love with Todd and her marriage is healthy and strong. The hopeful part of me wants to think all those things.

But…She’s a politician… isn’t she?
I’ve always subscribed to that old adage:
Question: “How do you know when a politician is lying? Answer: “His lips are moving.” But is Sarah different?

I understand the concern regarding the ‘polititian’ label. But Sarah Palin IS different.

Most of our ‘elected’ officials are CAREER polititians. They went to college with the ambition in mind.

Sarah is one of us. Like Michele Bachmann, she is one of us who got fed up watching the same old same old politics ruining OUR freedoms for THEIR gain and did something about it.

Rush stated only yesterday that more of US should get off our butts and do the same. THAT is the answer to the problem.

So why is she campaigning for that miserable piece of offal, John McCain, against a real conservative?

Somebody who puts misplaced personal loyalty before the best interests of America is a questionable commodity for President.

Rush explained this yesterday. If she DOESN’T campaign for McLame, the dems, the press can all shout that she thinks he’s good enough to run for President, but not for Senate... THAT would make her look like a real idiot.

"Somebody who puts misplaced personal loyalty before the best interests of America is a questionable commodity for President."

Because if it weren't for McCain, we would not have our Sarah now. We know and she knows it.

That is why she is staying loyal and endorsed McCain.

Does her endorsement force you or anyone else to vote for McCain?

Here it is in a nutshell:

1. Pick up your guns and start the second American revolution - or-

2. Find someone that can work within the system and still keep a sense of morals and values (ie, at least a partial politician).

I'm probably up for either, but the truth is option 2 will be a lot less bloody. The downside to option 2 is that sometimes compromises will have to be made.

I get tired of these perfectionist that expect spotlessly clean “miracles” to occur without any compromise or mess. We are in a bad situation and fixing it will probably take one or the other - pragmatic compromise or all out war. In either case, things aren't going to be easy or simple.

Yes, she’s a politician. But they’re ALL politicians. So you have pick the politician you like best, unless you’re going to run yourself.

Then you’re a politician.

There was a pregnant pause in her book where she talks about executive experience. She mentions that she has it [gov’, mayor], while neither -19bama nor plugs has any. The pregnant pause was the telling absence of McPain from that part of the book. Clearly, of the 4 people running for prez and VP in 2008, only one of them had ANY executive experience.

Anyone with integrity would do just what Sarah is doing. Listen to her positions on America. They are the ones that will affect you and me.

This isn't a slam. She's my #1 choice for POTUS in 2012.

This is just being prudent.

I believe that Sarah Palin is real. But the million-dollar question is: can she stay that way?

Folks tend to size up others according to what they see in the mirror.
The trustworthy tend to trust Sarah.
The self-doubters don't.

Nope. That's wrong. She should sit out the primary and if he wins then campaign for him but when he's being challenged by a conservative she sshould have demurred. Nobody wouold blame her...time was it was expected that everyone would sit out the primary and endorse the winner.

Perhaps it was the complete absence of a soothing conservative voice amidst the insistent, ever growing liberal momentum of obama that made Sarah Palin's VP announcement and coming out party so memorable.

As a former Republican believer, I had long since abandoned my party membership. The republicans had morphed from Reagan into big spending, kinder gentler liberals and McCain was exactly the sort of nominee one might expect from the republicans. Out of curiosity, I tuned in to see who he had chosen and was unprepared for my reaction to her and her speech.

Finally, someone saying what I believe!!! I automatically don't trust politicians, so I haven't learned to trust Sarah Palin yet. But, hers was the lone and much welcomed conservative voice in 2008 and for that alone I am grateful to Sarah Palin and to McCain for introducing her.

Just when I was starting to feel a twinge of doubt because Sarah was speaking at the Tea Party convention, the oh, so wonderful media reminded me that Sarah Palin was still keeping it real. They made such an issue of the hand-writing notes that it reassured me that yes, Sarah Palin is still Sarah Palin and she is the real deal.

Rush is right. Sarah has to walk a fine line. If she really wants the nomination, she has to walk a very fine line. I don’t know how she is polling with the independents, but not endorsing McCain would have worked against her with that group.

Aside from that, I really don’t see the allure of Sarah Palin. She might have a place in our federal government, but she is NOT POTUS material. Granted, she is a better choice than Barry, but what is Sarah Palin? A speaker and book-author.

All in all, she's the best we've got, and the ankle biters (you know who you are) who demand perfection of everyone except their candidates and themselves need to go re-stick their heads where the sun don't shine.

What is with the obsession with McCain. The McCain campaign has become a distraction that is being used to divide conservatives and destroy the conservative resurgence in this country. Most people harping on the McCain issue are just using it because it is a convenient opportunity to attack Sarah Palin, but the end result is going to be the division of the conservative movement. The people who support Sarah Palin are going to continue supporting Sarah Palin, and bad blood is growing between the Palin supporters and the people obsessing over the McCain endorsement.

Ya know, I see everybody going on about McCain and this and that concerning Palin. Wake up you guys, look at her record. She has a political one since early 90's.

Look how she lowered prop taxes in the MatSu in early 90's.

Look how she didn't burn her bridges to the Repubs when she probably should have after what they did to her.

Look at the great things she did as our governor.

Dang, I've been watching her since early 90's; when we lived in the MatSu talked to her every few weeks; she didn't hide from the people. She's about the only political I'd trust cause she has proved up so many times over the years.

Even last Spring when the Yukon washed out our road and half the town at iceout; Palin jumped on a 4 wheeler and rode a mudbog, winch time trail out the see the Indians at the village; no photo op either, Palin was by herself.

Sometimes I get to wondering how sharp people on FR really are? Pretty soon, they'll be parroting the same garbage the dem scum does. Look around, wise up on Palin; she is for real you know.

Let me spell it out for you in the simplest of terms.

If she had not Supported McCain, she could rightfully be considered a backstabber.

She supported the Man who thought well enough of her to choose her as his running mate for the highest office in the land.

Whatever she (or you for that matter) may think of John McCain that sort of trust deserves to be returned.

If she had not, she would have been branded with a host of terms designed to destroy any chance she has.

Which, by the way, is a politician’s calculus. She’s a politician, and this is Quid Pro Quo. Nothing else.

There’s a reason politicians act like politicians. To a certain extent, it’s the only way to do it. Sure, sometimes you can get away with breaking down walls instead of winding through the maze. But try it too often, and people (be they regular joes, fellow pols, or media types) start asking, “Who does she think she is? Everyone has to go through the maxe! That’s how it’s done!”

Palin solved issues up here as gov that nobody before her even attempted. I was talking to my local state legislator's office yesterday (Indian from another village who is a dem and the only dem we ever vote for and they even commented on how good/successful Palin was as our gov). With Palin gone, you can see it going back the other way.

I mention that 4 wheeler thing because I think Palin is the only Gov I have ever seen on a 4 wheeler; let alone on a trail with 3 foot deep mud slopps. Gives you some insight to how down to earth she really is. The elites from both partys probably wouldn't know what an ATV is, let alone being second nature to riding one for years like most rural people; like Palin.

IN fact most these elites wouldn't know what to do if their lives depended on it. Every summer, we see Greenies, Euros, lower 48's, I wanna kiss the wolf types getting rescued on the river. We scratch our heads in amazement as our local kids have been traveling the river on their own since they were age 10.

I guess I am impressed when I see a woman who has accomplished great things politically up here, has integrity above reproach, and also has the commonsense to survive and thrive in the real world.

Helping that bastard John McCain to get back into the Senate for another 6 years is rewarding bad behavior. He will just do the same thing he has done for the prior terms of his office.

Any conservative with integrity would not ENDORSE actions like this - even from Sarah Palin.

Instead, they would send her e-mails urging her to STOP supporting this RINO.

There needs to be consequences for actions, and after years of supporting illegal aliens, helping to get an unconstitutional law passed (McCain Feingold), flirting and conniving with the Dems, and torpedoing any chance of defeating Obama in the general election by a pathetic campaign, the bill has come due and that bastard McCain should be made to pay it.

The issue with McCain is that the GOP has betrayed its constituency.

THAT is why they lost control of the House.

THAT is why they lost the Presidential Election.

THAT is one of the reasons this country is so screwed up.

And the reason for that is people like John McCain, the Bushes
(”compassionate conservatives”) and a host of other Republicans who think, walk and act like Democrats, but call themselves Republicans.

Now that there is a chance to nail John McCain’s mangy hide to the wall FINALLY and set an example by flushing out of office the most egregious of these people, all conservatives should be working towards that goal.

Remember McCain-Feingold?

Remember amnesty for illegals?

Remember flirtations with Ted Kennedy?

Remember the gang of five (or six, or whatever they called themselves)?

How about taxing health plan benefits? THAT was John McCain during his campaign.

What about the first bail out of mismanaged companies with tax-payer dollars? THAT was John McCain.

She could have just BUTTED OUT.

If I recall correctly, the relationship between Sarah and McCain was hardly an amicable one. After the election, he allowed his campaign staff to viciously attack her.

If McCain chose her as a running mate, it was because he KNEW he was POISON to conservative voters and needed a boost.
I myself only voted for the old bastard BECAUSE he picked her.

There are, or should be, limits to loyalty in politics anyway - and John McCain is an example of that limit.

“End of story. And I would appreciate if you focus on the big picture: Removing the Rats before they destroy this nation.”

That is NOT the end of the story, I didn’t hear Rush, and he isn’t an infallable political God.

The end of the story is IF THE GOP takes over the White House in 2012 and Congress in 2010 and 2012, AND they PERSIST in the policies of Bush, McCain, Graham, Snowe, et al., they will be destroyed and replaced by weaker third party. THAT will, ONCE AGAIN, put Washington in the hands of the leftists.

Americans are ticked off - justifiably so. They have HAD IT with career politicians playing musical chairs with their tax dollars, the Constitution and their basic rights.

And John McCain and people of his ilk, if re-elected, will ASSURE that the flawed policies of the past 8 years - which led to a Marxist Muslim in the Oval Office, and control of Congress in the hands of the Democrats WILL RECUR!

WHAT on EARTH is so DIFFICULT to understand about that??
