IRVINE, Calif. -- A man who had his hand severed after being dragged by a Metrolink train two weeks ago was struck again on Tuesday and lived to tell about it, authorities said.
The 57-year-old man claimed he fell from the platform onto the tracks at the Irvine station and was hit by a northbound train Tuesday morning, police said.
The man gave the same explanation after he was hit by a train in Laguna Nigel Feb. 8 and dragged 87 feet, according to Sgt. Mike Meyers of the Irvine Police Department.
The man's left hand was severed at the wrist as a result.
Orange County Sheriff's officials investigated the first incident as an accident. Police are trying to figure out how he ended up on the tracks again.
The man was reportedly hospitalized with non life-threatening injuries.
Police said a mental health examination would be requested.

It’s this sort of thing that leads me to believe all public transportation should be banned.
People should ride only in their own vehicles. That is what is best for humanity.

Reminds me of the Ameritrade commercial, where the kid says that the odds of winning the Powerball are the same as getting mauled by a Polar Bear and mauled by a Black Bear on the same day...
