Father of school shooter talks about son's difficult life (GOP's fault!)

HUDSON — Bruco War Eagle Eastwood has difficulty talking about what his son did at the school Tuesday. “I'm half-hearted right now,” he said. “Broken hearted. I can't apologize enough for what my son did.”

Eastwood is the father of Bruco Strong Eagle Eastwood, the accused shooter at Deer Creek Middle School Tuesday afternoon, that wounded two students. He was taken down by a teacher at the school and held for law officers.

The father, War Eagle Eastwood, owns the War Eagle Ranch near Hudson in south Weld County, where they train and raise horses for sale.

“He's worked here for about five years,' the father said Wednesday. “He grew up in the Littleton area, but came to work out here when he was also going to Aims (Community College) in Fort Lupton.” The son told others he was a horse trainer on his father's ranch.

The father said his son was trying to get his G.E.D. high school equivalency, but was not able to complete it due to his mental health problems. “He's been bothered with mental problems for a long time,” the father said. “He tried to get medical help for them, but he couldn't afford to pay for the care.”

Strong Eagle Eastwood said he knows his son had problems that would make him angry, but he never thought he would harm anyone. The son apparently drove from the ranch to the school Tuesday.

Reports state he talked to students and teachers at the school before returning later with the hunting rifle.

The son has been arrested before, according to state records. Strong Eagle Eastwood has an arrest record in Colorado dating back to 1996 for menacing, assault, domestic violence and driving under the influence of alcohol, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation.

He also was booked into the Weld County Jail in 2008 on a charge of failure to appear in court for a traffic offense — no proof of insurance. Police haven't released a photo because they are still investigating and hoping to use Strong Eagle Eastwood's photo for witness identification

A Denver television station reported Strong Eagle Eastwood attended Deer Creek Middle School in the 1990s.

So once again, the perpetrator is the victim! A perfect case of situation ethics taught by American Feducation!

Sounds like Bruco “War Eagle” Eastwood is an Auburn fan. I am not surprised that he would have a son that did this. :)

They are calling him a “suspect” (who was tackled) and still waiting for witness “identification”.

The law is a ass.

Lee Harvey Oswald was a shooting SUSPECT (and chief suspect in the crime, subsequently investigated).

Jack Ruby was an observed (and captured at scene) perp (gun in hand).

Every time the lamestream media calls these shooters a “suspect” who was tackled (or shot) at the scene, I just HOPE that they shot the RIGHT guy.

Well, we can blame Democrats for the fact that he wasn't locked up longer.

If someone is measurably mentally sick (and determined to be CRIMINALLY ill), that person should not be out unescorted if (s)he is going to be able to plead “not guilty by reason of insanity”. If you aren’t accountable for your actions, then you are not at liberty to travel wherever you’d like with a firearm in your posession. House arrest until your legal guardian is willing to escort you somewhere.

I heard this guy on the local (Denver) radio this morning. When asked if he could confirm that his son went to Deer Creek, he answered that he didn’t know - that he didn’t know where he went to school then - thought it was somewhere further south, but not sure. He said he is not the person he knew “way back”.

So he wasn’t involved in his son’s life then. Also, if the son had some serious mental illness problems and has been living with the dad for several years, why didn’t the dad intervene? If someone is hearing voices, they need someone who is not mentally ill to step in and help, not let them wander around looking for help by themselves. And, if you know your child is mentally ill, you don’t leave a rifle lying around - you lock it up, best somewhere where son has no idea where it might be.

Why couldn’t his father help him get treatment?

I know if I needed help that I couldn’t afford— my family would get it for me... somehow, someway.

I would do the same for my kid.

This family seems to be coppin’ out, if ya ask me.

I don’t blame the family but I don’t feel much pity, either.

So if his father owns a rach why didn’t he help? IMHO parents often choose not to see how dangerous their kids are and don’t like to find blame elsewhere for what their kids do rather than admit they knew something was badly wrong.

You might be a Bammer if you say stupid stuff like that.

Do you believe Auburn people go around shooting people? Auburn has nothing to do with this. With names like War Eagle and Strong Eagle, sounds more like Indians Gone Wild In Colorado to me.

Geez, shame his employer didn't provide health benefits.

Failing that, it would have helped if was related to some wealthy ranch owner who could help him out with the doctor bills.

Obviously, society failed him.

Many are the problems that are cast aside when the subject is dealing with mental illness. Relatives cannot force someone to seek treatment against their will, and the law is reluctant to deal with them either. Years ago, State run institutions were shuttered and patients literally put on the street for cost containment.
