And if you take out the driver, then you have an UNGUIDED 4000 lb weapon. Not exactly the optimal situation.

When the shooting started, resident Lisa Buchhold says she dove for cover and protected her son. Buchhold said the number of shots were excessive, but necessary.

"He kept squealing his tires and kept pushing the cop car backwards. At one point, they asked the guy to get out of the vehicle but the car never stopped," Buchhold said.

The deputies needed to end it. They just didn't shoot well, it seems.

I don't see any problems other than that.

I agree with you.
I am not a LEO. I am proficient (not expert) with several weapons.
I can and would shoot to kill, if the circumstances warranted a lethal response to any given situation.

As a civilian, I am very aware, and readily accept that my use of lethal force against another civilian would, and should be heavily scrutinized.
One would logically think that the use of lethal force by supposedly highly trained LEOs would be as scrutinized, and even more thoroughly investigated. I can't imagine a situation against one lone, unarmed, human attacker that would require even one flip of a banana clip reload, that would still be considered "justified self-defense"... OTOH, there was a taser incident at my daughters school last week that went unreported by any local media. The female resource officer tasered two female students involved in a fist fight (no weapons involved). Either the girls parents think they "deserved it" or have been conditioned to think any action by LEOs is acceptable.

If you're using your vehicle as a weapon, then you are clearly armed and lethally dangerous.

One would think that with all the shooting going on, some of the rounds would have been directed at the tires of this 'weapon'.

A car doesn't go very far or very fast with no tires underneath it.
