Powerless Against Palin
American Thinker ^ | February 26, 2010 | Gene Schwimmer

Posted on 02/25/2010 11:01:57 PM PST by neverdem

The Palestinians have nothing on liberal Democrats. Palestinians, as Abba Eban, Israel's former ambassador to the United Nations, famously quipped, "never missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity."  But the Democrats and the jogging canines of mainstream journalism never miss an opportunity to miss the obvious.

Allow me, then, to explain the reason -- the real reason -- why the aforementioned devote the enormous amounts of time, effort, ink, and pixels to attack one woman, Sarah Palin. Palin is a private citizen, who does nothing but give speeches, sell books, post Facebook messages, and is a "Fox News contributor" whose only substantive "contributions" so far, from what I can see, have been to Fox News' bottom line and to her own bank account.

After all, we never saw the left direct this level of vitriol -- no, let's call it what it is, hatred -- against the likes of Ron Paul, Steve Forbes, Ross Perot, and others whose names, for good reason, I cannot recall.  And, unlike Sarah Palin, these were all declared candidates, actively-campaigning for the presidency in an election year.

What could possibly account for this borderline deranged venting of hellfire, this spewing of enough bile to float a battleship, enough gnashing of teeth to pay the college tuition -- all four years -- of the children of a whole battalion of cosmetic dentists?  After all, it's not like Sarah Palin could actually be elected President of the United States or anything.

Or could she?

Of course, she could, or at least the people attacking her think so.  That is not to say that she will be elected or even nominated, but she could and that's clearly one reason why the left is so viciously attacking her and her alone.  This has to be a sweet irony if you're Sarah Palin:  Your enemies are screaming to the rafters that you can't be elected precisely because, in their heart of hearts and brain of brains, they know that you can.  The New York Times' editorial board doth protest too much.

But even that is only one factor that explains, the ferocity, the hateful, the sheer derangement of the left's anti-Palin barrage and it's not the main factor, which is this: They are powerless to stop her.  And they know it.

For Democrats, it is, literally, the Fear That Dare Note Speak Its Name, the fear that Sarah Palin could indeed be elected president and that there is nothing they can do about it.

Follow my impeccable logic here:  While anything can happen between now and the first Tuesday of November, 2012, as the situation exists today (absent a swift and substantial rightward shift by Obama, a dramatic drop in the unemployment rate, the emergence of the Tea Parties as a viable third party, a decision by Obama not to run, or the sudden appearance of a deus ex machina) Barack Obama is a one-term president.  If present trends continue, the next president will be a Republican.  Mitt Romney, Scott Brown, your Aunt Petunia.

Or Sarah Palin.  Whoever the Republicans nominate in 2012 becomes president in 2013.  And that's the key word:  "Republicans."  Whoever the Republicans nominate.

And that's got to be frustrating for your average liberal Democrat:  knowing that absent some surprising favorable development, the Republican Party will choose the next president.  The Democrats role will be limited to simply standing there and letting it happen.

But as the late Billy Mays liked to say, "Wait!  There's more!"  Because if you're a liberal Democrat facing this prospect, you're probably thinking:  "The Messiah's a goner, but if we're to have a Republican president, please, God, please, anyone but Sarah Palin.  Anyone but an attractive, charismatic, principled, conservative, pro-life woman."

Now sometimes appeals to the Almighty work, but not always, or the nation would have been spared the Obama administration, and any appeals and arguments to the voters -- anything the Democrats do after the GOP chooses their candidate -- will be too late.  The Plan A dog (to reelect Obama) won't hunt in 2012, which leaves liberals with Plan B:  dissuade the Republicans from nominating Palin in the first place.  Throw everything, including the kitchen sink, at her.  Blast her with every crack, every criticism, every accusation, no matter how absurd, how hysterical, how rabid and irrational, and hope something sticks.  Sully her good name; taint her so badly in the public's eyes that Republicans won't dare nominate her.

Either that, or turn on the TV at noon, January 20, 2013 to see Barack Obama, out after one soon-to-be-forgotten term, standing on a platform in front of the White House -- and the entire world puts her left hand on the Bible, raises her right, and repeating after Chief Justice Roberts (or reading from her palm) says:

I, Sarah Louise Palin, do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of the President of the United States...

Is it any wonder the Dems are going bonkers?

Never has so much ink been so badly misused for the purpose of preventing someone as allegedly unlikely as Sarah Palin from being nominated as the Presidential candidate of a major political party.

What a delightful and thought provoking read. Lots of “ifs” in that chain of logic, but no obviously broken links.

...President Palin...It makes me4 want to vote for her for no other reason than all the LibPerv death culter freaks brains it would make explode! Bush made many of them crawl up into fetal positions in their beds...this’d have them committing suicide without even bothering to wait and try and take as many other people to Hell with them, like they usually do.

They hate her because she is so sweet and nice and likable. The pro-abortion strategy was to paint all pro-lifers as overweight, grumpy old men and celibate smarmy church ladies who want to have control over young women. They can't do that with Palin and that drives them nuts.

Two of the things that aggravate the anti-Palin gang the most: (1) the strong confident grin that lets them know that she really doesn’t care what they think (kinda reminds them of the pain they got from Reagan) and (2) the fact that despite having been in politics for years she still has enough principled fire in the belly to do some really conservative things if she gets a chance (reminds the ones that are old enough of AuH2O in ‘64).

Virtually everything that is being said about Palin was said about Reagan (excepting obvious gender references). She’s a lightweight, she’s shallow, she’s dumb, she’s sooooooo... so..... so.....

nice.

And that is the very worst thing of all. She connects. Ronald Reagan connected. Americans see her and they see a person they can kick off the shoes with and watch television with. They see a Mom that would make a great Den mother. Ladies see a girlfriend they could shop with on one day, and head out with for a beer on ladies night.

She is 100% pure Americana and it shows in everything she does and says.

Just. Like. Reagan.

The libs are scared to death of her because, again, just like Reagan, she speaks past the media shapers, the pundits, the intelligentsia and every other microphone hog in the yapping class and takes her message directly to the citizens.

They notice. They understand what she says, and they like what they hear.

I imagine Ronnie watching her right now with a twinkle in his eye and a smile on his face.

He’s probably having the time of his afterlife!

Barack Obama, out after one soon-to-be-forgotten term

Nobody who lived through it, and many who didn't, will ever forget Jimmy Carter. Barky is on course to make Jimmah look like Lincoln. And we still have three years left for him to destroy the country.

I was a young adult during the peanut farmer's presidency and I ended up despising Carter. But if I had to choose today, I would take Carter over Obama.

Yeah, things are that bad.

I agree ... both Democrat and Republican enemies. I'm still waiting to hear a Republican figure explain why he's so opposed to a Sarah Palin candidacy with any reasoning other than, "But she's not ME!!!"

That’s right. There are too Democrats and Republicans, elected officials and media types, who have spent their whole lives in politics building their ‘credentials.’ They don’t see that it is their ‘credentials’ that now brand them as suspect in most voters eyes. Sarah Palin cuts right to the heart of the problem by stating the obvious: The elites have screwed things up. Common sense and courage is far more important now than having the right degree and the right connections.

“You’re up, kid. Make it count!”

That is a great picture and quote, very much like what the Gipper is actually saying, as he observes the 30th anniversary (February 26, 1980) of his tremendous victory over the RINO establishment in New Hampshire Primary, coming back from a narrow defeat in Iowa (31%-30%) to thrash George H.W. Bush 51%-27% (in a field of ten candidates). This victory effectively clinched his 1980 nomination.

February 26, 1980-the day the Gipper won one for the conservatives, all of us. Thanks, Mr. President. It is up to her to win one for you in 2012. And she will.

In my opinion, the biggest hurdle Sarah Palin has to clear is what I call the "catty factor": Women who hate her because she has everything-- brains, beauty, family, strength and power. They will vote against her for no other reason than insane jealousy. So, yes, if the election were held today, O'Bummer would probably clean her clock for that reason alone.

But give O'Bummer three more years, or even two. Even most of the catty women who vote with their feeeeeelings will have had enough to vote for the only viable alternative to four more years of O'Bummer.

True enough, but those attributes miss the core of the issue. Liberals hate her fundamentally because she embodies the three things liberals fear most: She is good; she is free; and she is a patriotic American.

If she does make a run I expect that the left will do something irretrievably evil to stop her.

If she ends up the nominee in '12 she will have beaten out the men in the field who would present the women you speak of with the opportunity to express their insane jealousy by voting for them instead of her.

And given the choice between voting to perpetuate 15%-20% unemployment brought to you by Obummer and voting for someone who has actually run something other her mouth and who might be the best option for getting her husband working again, I think most women would vote to feed their households as opposed to indulging their jealousy.

I always like to read the comments at American Thinker and one is by a poster calling himself Randall Hoven. Don't know if it's the Randall Hoven who also writes for American Thinker, but here's his comment:

""I hate to say it, but Sarah Palin on her own does not impress me all that much. She's OK; I'd vote for her, etc., but she's not that superlative. I really don't get the impression she is either on top of the issues or on top of the war that is politics.

BUT, the reaction she gets from lefties makes me think she could just be The One. She is holy water to the vampires of the left. One way to judge a person is by his or her enemies. By that measure, Sarah is the greatest hope out there of defeating the Left.""
