A north Harris County man shot a pair of suspected home invaders on Friday, killing one and wounding the other, during a gunbattle outside his house, officials said.
The homeowner was also wounded, authorities said.
“He was shot by one of the suspects,” said Sgt. Craig Clopton with the Harris County Sheriff's Department. His condition was not available.
Gunfire erupted at 11:30 a.m. at a home in the 1300 block of Spring City after two people forced open the front door, officials said. The homeowner and the suspects both were armed and exchanged gunfire, authorities said.
One attacker, an adult, fell to the ground in the yard. He was later pronounced dead at the scene. The wounded juvenile ran to a nearby home in the 14000 block of Coveney and pounded on the front door.
“He told me that he had gotten shot and to call his mother. I thought he was just crazy,” said Pamela Grant, who cares for an elderly woman who lives there.
Grant said he came to the window and showed her his foot, where he had been apparently struck by gunfire. She could tell that he was bleeding.
“I told him to get away, but he wouldn't leave,” Grant said.
By that time, deputies had arrived. The youth was taken by ambulance to a hospital. His condition was not available.
Courtney Brooks, who lives nearby, was watching television when the commotion started.
“There was shooting, and my dogs were barking,” Brooks said. “A good five minutes later, that's when I heard the sirens coming.”

I don't know. If I was to go pounding on doors in the middle of the night in Texas, I might run the risk of running into more gun fire.
A better scenario would be if this young criminal got finished off at the second home.

Anyone with a brain does. Those people who want to die in a home invasion don't, I always have a gun on me while in my house. BTW,the original news article, posted a day or so ago, said these two were trying to break in.
When seconds count, the police are five minutes away.
I do, sometimes. At 11:30 at night if my door’s being forced open? Definitely. “Baddies” have a right to defend themselves too, even if you are right, which you probably aren’t.

We concealed carry in Ohio. Prepare for the worst, hope for the best.
Only six county LE officers in our 750 square mile Ohio county. We're 1/2 hour from the sheriff's office, and many residents are over an hour away. Yet our county crime rate is 17% of the national average. Funny how that works out.

Sorry to have to disagree with you, but, when the doorbell rings, either my wife or I will look out the small kitchen window that flanks the front door and porch. If it's someone we don't recognize, we retrieve the pistol (for me) and the shotgun (for her) and open up the window to ask them their business.
Should they try to break in the steel door, they're going to have a little problem because, whenever one of us is in the house, the two deadbolts are thrown (2.5 inches of deadbolt into the doorframe which is a treated 4x4) and the bar is across the middle of the door (a 2x4 in the manner somewhat akin to what you see across castle gates held in steel braces with 2-inch bolts securing it to the 4x4 door frame).
The windows are all covered with painted treated wooden lattice .. easy enough to kick out if you have to escape a fire, but delaying and noisy enough to discourage break-ins .. and, underneath the paneling below the kitchen window is a 4'x4' piece of 3/8-inch steel plating from a salvage yard, in case of gunfire into the kitchen when we're asking them their business.
We live well out in the sticks, away from the main road .. a lot of privacy, but we're pretty much on our own. My wife, who is from England, took to the property and the Texas way of life with guns like a duck to water.
Unemployed folks. Work from home. I’m home every morning at that time, I stay home with my kid. Good time of day for home invaders since they’d assume the same as you.

Yes, absolutely. I am usually armed when I answer the door, and always armed when I answer the door at night.
To answer the door late at night without being armed seems rather careless.

Having a weapon in (or close at) hand when greeting an unknown

Police that work overnight shifts...trying to catch a bit of sleep.
About 20 years ago one enterprising thug committed his last crime when
he broke into what he thought was an unoccupied house...only to
be greeted by a police officer that exhibited excellent “gun control”.
And let his weapon express his dislike for having his nap interupted.
This happened somewhere in the Oklahoma City metroplex about 20
years ago.
Of course, no indictment or grand jury ensued.
This was in the good old day when Bob Macy was the District Attorney.

A while back, an officer knocking on the door at 11 o'clock at night just glanced at the pistol I was holding and smiled.
He was looking for a stray longhorn someone had seen grazing across our yard. :-)
We have loaded guns on hooks above exterior doors but not for shooting people. I wouldn't have any problems killing anybody getting wild and crazy such as in an invasion; been shot at myself many years back in lower 48; never forgot those orange flashes either, ha. I've grabbed enough flopping caribou by horns and cut their throats; that sorta thing doesn't faze me either.
I just don't think that I'd want to live in an environment where my family might be subjected to such violence, crime, and headaches; just too many other good places to call home.
I read about all these home invasions and wonder if it's really getting that bad?
WE once had a couple drunk Indians kick the door in, thinking it was their cabin, no joke. Indians kinda lose their minds with booze. Our plott hounds tore them up, chased them down the road; I didn't even get a chance to find out who they were until nx day when the entire village was talking about our maneaters. When the Indians told me I should shoot those dogs, I told them why would I do a thing like that? Them dogs being such a good judge of character and all, ha ha; left them wondering?

In Houston, TEXAS !? Not a snowball's chance. We no-billed a guy who blew away two scum robbing his neighbor's house.
Of course, anybody can sue anybody for anything. But in this case, the lawyer would have to be a total idiot.
My neighbor across the road has a wonderful rottweiler. She's too, is a good judge of character and a great protector of all adopted territory. When Sadie barks, we listen.
Last summer, some punks were run off by Sadie. Later, the sheriff had an anonymous telephone call reporting a "vicious dog running loose, chasing joggers;" given the county has a leash law on the books.
When the sheriff's deputy stopped by to investigate, my neighbor was ordered to tie Sadie up. Naturally, a sheriff's visit is a big deal, so we asked what happened. We requested the neighbor NOT comply. And if anyone ever asked, we couldn't recall Sadie ever being loose.
A few weeks later, about a half-mile down the road, a home invasion turned ugly for the unprepared occupant. Fortunately, it led to a arrests and convictions. Another plead guilty yesterday. One of them was recently parolled just before the home invasion.
Nothing better than being in the company of Samuel Colt's equilizer and man's best friend.
