NEW YORK (Associated Press) -- Less than a week after declaring he would seek a full four-year term, New York Gov. David Paterson abruptly dropped his election bid Friday under pressure from fellow Democrats concerned about his faltering agenda and his handling of a domestic abuse case involving a trusted aide.

Paterson cited a litany of distractions that prompted him to end his campaign, but said he had never abused his office.

I have never seen such a doofus as a governor of a state. Cuomo is a dishonest, hideous human being and maybe that is what New York will get, but this guy certainly had to go.

I don’t know, as the late Roman L. Hruska might have said, in NY “doofuses” deserve representation too.”

New York Gov. David Paterson dropped out because the guy that wants to replace him was investigating him? There is no doubt that Paterson is a scumbag, but it doesn’t make sense for an A.G. running for the office of person he is investigating to be able to force him to resign. You can bet, Cuomo said, resign or jail. Now that Paterson resigned the investigation will be whitewashed and Paterson will walk.

I knew when this guy held up his right hand and swore he did nothing wrong that he was lying!

Go ahead and hold your hand up like you are swearing an oath. I bet your hand is standing tall - fingers together and thumb close and tight! Do it! I told you so.

I have never seen a limp hand like he had when he held it up to swear his innocence.

Obama and his thugs didn’t want him to run again (why?) and why all the sudden does this come to light? Wonder if someone from the Chicago gang paid the woman to call Peterson and then leaked it to the newspaper. Didn’t Obama and his cohorts do something about his competitor in the Senate race and divorce papers?

No one ever lays the blame to this disaster of a human being where it belongs- if incredibly stupid H*RD*N Spitzer hadn’t of been such an insouciant moron none of this would have ever come into play- on the other hand, we ARE rid of Spitzer, and now, thankfully, his rotten spawn Paterson.

HUD's Web visitors learned that in 1999 Clinton's then-HUD Secretary Andrew Cuomo established the new "Affordable Housing Goals" requiring Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac—two government sponsored enterprises involved in housing finance—to buy $2.4 trillion in mortgages in the next 10 years. Cuomo’s historic action raised the required percentage of mortgage loans for low- and moderate-income families that the companies must buy from the current 42 percent of their total purchases to a new high of 50 percent—a 19 percent increase—in the year 2001." ... From Village Voice report 8-5-08) Andrew Cuomo, the youngest Housing and Urban Development secretary in history, made a series of decisions between 1997 and 2001 that gave birth to the country’s current crisis.

Cuomo took actions that—in combination with many other factors—helped plunge Fannie and Freddie into the subprime markets without putting in place the means to monitor their increasingly risky investments.

Cuomo turned the Federal Housing Administration mortgage program into a sweetheart lender with sky-high loan ceilings and no money down, and he legalized what a federal judge has branded “kickbacks” to brokers that have fueled the sale of overpriced and unsupportable loans. (There were rampant rumors that Cuomo himself pocketed greatly from his HUD position.)
