Theres hardly an evangelical who doesnt know about Wheaton College. Alma Mater of the Reverend Billy Graham, Wheaton boasts a student body of superior intellect and an education rivaling much of the Ivy League. Wheaton College graduates can boast of presidential speech writers and Speakers of the United States House of Representatives along with doctors and executives and professors and missionaries and pastors across the globe.
But Wheaton is different. Founded by an anti-slavery father and son, Jonathan and Charles Blanchard, Wheaton was established as a chain in the Underground Railroad to help runaway slaves. Wheatons distinctive has always been to educate students not only with knowledge but with wisdom. All truth is Gods truth. The knowledge of God brings greater understanding, not less
the acknowledgement of Him brings order from chaos in science, mathematics and economic systems. To be a Christ follower can bring the highest of intellectual pursuits, not the Bible thumping ignorance Hollywood would portray.

This conference is part of the Center's mission of helping to create a more engaged civil society, working towards social change, fostering coalitions between theorists and activists, and combating anti-intellectualism in contemporary culture. It will be both a celebration of ideas and a rigorous examination of the roles and responsibilities that intellectuals play in society.
I. Why Do Ideas Matter? (a keynote panel)
We introduce the meta theme of the conference by hearing success stories from diverse voices discussing their experiences intervening intellectually.
Timuel Black, Chicago activist; Prof. Emeritus, City Colleges of Chicago

Gerald Graff, UIC, College of Liberal Arts & Sciences
Richard Rorty, Stanford University, Philosophy
III. Lunch and Public Encounters
Alternative breakout tours led by Chicago activists. Tours of Bronzeville and other communities, and visits to organizations that are working on partnering theorists with activists.
IV. Intellectuals in Times of Crisis
Experiences and applications of intellectual work in urgent situations.
William Ayers, UIC, College of Education; author of Fugitive Days

"Dig It. First they killed those pigs, then they ate dinner in the same room with them, they even shoved a fork into a victims stomach! Wild!"

"Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that's where it's really at"
--Bill Ayers ("intellectual") (1970), quoted in New York Times, September 11, 2001:
Article: "No Regrets for a Love Of Explosives; In a Memoir of Sorts, a War Protester Talks of Life With the Weathermen"
"It was at the Chicago home of [Bill] Ayers and [Bernardine] Dohrn that ["intellectual"] Obama, then an up-and-coming 'community organizer,' had his political coming out party in 1995. Not content with this rite of passage in Lefty World where unrepentant terrorists are regarded as progressive luminaries, still working 'only to educate' both Obamas tended to the relationship with the Ayers."

Thanks, ETL, for spreading the word. These duplicitous people need to be exposed as often and as far and wide as possible.
They are liars and killers who intend to eliminate freedom and control us all.
Kill all the rich people. Break up their cars and apartments. Bring the revolution home, kill your parents, that’s where it’s really at”
—Bill Ayers (”intellectual”) (1970), quoted in New York Times, September 11, 2001:
That is happening now. Not the physical part, but in spirit. Warfare against parents and their children (telling kids they know more than their parents)kills the parents know best spirit, the break up (bailout of car companies), and the housing collapse....the revolution is home....that’s what Obama meant by ‘out time is NOW’...
Thanks. I hope others can understand as well why I repeatedly post the stuff I do. If not for people here who don’t fully understand what we’re dealing with, and there are still lots, but for anyone else who might come across these threads via an internet search, particularity democrats, independents, and misguided libs who’ve supported Obama up until now.
I guess I now know why. Of course, it seems like Bethel is starting to make the same slide.
Perhaps much of it can be attributed to a movement widely embraced by the campus known as social justice. In its truest form, justice is synonymous with Christian teaching. Why else would Christians through the ages have left the comfort of their home and culture to go to remote villages and treat the sick and preach the good news of a universal savior, Jesus Christ. Why would the William Wilberforces and the American abolitionists have sacrificed so much to eliminate the slave trade? Why would most hospitals trace their beginnings to founders compelled by their faith to treat the sick? Soup kitchens homeless shelters inner city missions the same? Why if not for the cause of justice?
True Christianity has been totally perverted and redefined.
A product of Wheaton College?
But as is often the case for the Left, words are co-opted and meanings changed. To be gay is to be homosexual. To abort a baby is to exercise choice and to exercise social justice is to identify the oppressed and the oppressors and define all of history past and present as a series of injustices. Whites oppress blacks even 6-year-old white children are intrinsically racist. Big business oppresses the working man even business owners who are honest and generous. To be successful in business is to oppress and the score must be evened to obtain justice. Heterosexuals oppress homosexuals with no allowance for moral objection. According to this definition of social justice, the oppressor and the oppressed must be identified and actions taken accordingly.
BTW 60% of the facility voted for Obama!
I knew there was a problem there when the school changed it's name from Wheaton Bible College, to just plain ol' Wheaton.
But that's all changed now.
Nuns are rare so regular teachers are hired for Catholic Elementary Schools, whatever their religion be, if they even have one. There's not as many Brothers or Priests so ditto on them being Teachers. And at the 'Catholic' DePaul University there are now Professors who are ... Jewish. Now I have nothing against Jewish Professors, but I don't think a Catholic Univ is exactly the right place for them. It's like a Priest teaching at a Jewish School.
So what's happening at Wheaton College is typical for what's going on in today's world, and its cock-eyed.
It is much easier for evil to prevail than for good. When there are no rules, when lying and killing are not only accepted but encouraged (think Muslims, also) and when the good are held to high moral standards by evil and by themselves, evil has a cake walk, for a time. Good is often only appreciated over the long haul and usually after evil has sown all the seeds of its own destruction.
This evil, Communism/Islam, is also very cunning and patient. Through incrementalism and seventy plus years of steady progress they now control the media, education, the labor unions including government workers’ unions, the entertainment industry, and have made great inroads into the churches. They have seeded their operatives throughout our government agencies and often accomplish their goals through unheralded regulations rather than legislation.
Like the Lilliputians they have quietly and slowly bound us with thread as we slept.
However, when severely challenged and threatened with extinction Good will rear its head and fight back. That is what we are seeing now with the Tea Party Movement and a new charismatic leader in Sarah Palin.
I am not calling Palin our new political leader, though she may become that, but she is a new charismatic voice and personality for a conservative movement which declares simply and in a straight forward non-nuanced way that “We the People” want things the way they were intended to be when this country was founded.
The giant has awakened.
“It’s like a Priest teaching at a Jewish School.”
A Priest well steeped in the Old Testament could teach in a Jewish School.
Not so hot link. Try this one:
Very well put! :)
I don't think so.
There's more to the Torah and Jewish Teaching than the Christian Bible's Old Testament.
There are the 'Mosaic Laws' (Laws of Moses), there's over 600 of them that Jews are taught on how to live. And Christians, or a Priest know nothing about them, not having studied them.
No, I don't think a Priest would work.
Those 600 or so ‘laws’ you talk about did not come through Moses. Those were ‘laws’ that were of the Pharisees. Many are still ‘practiced’ or ‘enforced’ today, of course.
The first ‘law’ was ‘do not eat of the tree...’ - God’s law.
The next ten, ‘The Ten Commandments’, were through Moses, but also God’s law.
The 600 or so that the Pharisees imposed on others, not necessarily on themselves (like the leftists in the US Congress) were not God’s laws.
Jesus (Yeshua) simplified all of that - Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and love your neighbor as you love yourself.
Jesus said the whole law was Love.
Psalm 147:19-20 “He declares His word to Jacob, His statutes and His laws to Israel. He did not do so to any other nation, of His laws they were not informed.”
